Welcome to our Non-Traditional (Adult) Students
Non-traditional undergraduate students are a very unique group of students who are sometimes referred to as "adult learners." Non-traditional students may be those who entered college a year or more after high school graduation, are working to support themselves or their families, have dependents in their care, are married or divorced, are serving in the armed forces, or are veterans.
At SUNY Cortland, we typically consider non-traditional students as undergraduates who:
- at least 24 years or older and/ or
- those students who, regardless of age, have dependent children and/ or
- have had an interruption or delay in their education since high school and/ or
- are currently or have served in the US military
Some of our non-trads commute from as far away as Baldwinsville, Binghamton, Ithaca, Newark Valley and Utica.
So whether you are returning, transferring, or starting over, we're sure you'll find your experience here challenging and rewarding.
We are here to help you transition into SUNY Cortland and to support your stay while you are here by providing information through workshops, social events, and newsletters and to support you by being your advocate. This is YOUR community, we welcome you!
For your information, there are about 210 undergraduate non-traditional students here on campus! So please remember...you are not alone!
