Counseling Center

You’ll find our Counseling Center staff members offer a safe and confidential place to help you deal with the stress of personal, social and educational issues as you adjust to campus life. Our free service is fully accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services.

Substance Abuse Prevention and Education

Student Health Service

Take advantage of care for short-term medical conditions, such as colds and the flu, immunizations, vaccine clinics, information about emergencies and insurance, illness and disease prevention, education about healthy lifestyles and resources for health-related topics. You can also make an appointment to receive medical attention for acute and chronic illnesses.

Be Fit

Get moving! Get active! Get fit! Your mind works better when you feel good — and feeling good is as easy as taking a walk, playing Frisbee, working out or taking T’ai Chi classes.

Fitness Facilities

From aerobic exercise, strength training and free weights to rowing machines, treadmills, elliptical cross trainers or space for calisthenics, you’ll enjoy using a variety of fitness equipment in the Student Life Center. You’ll also benefit from our knowledgeable staff members who can assist you in reaching your personal fitness goals.

Campus Walking Trails

Put on your walking shoes and burn off some stress, tone your muscles and improve your sleep and mental alertness when you step out on one of our eight campus trails. With distances ranging from 0.4 to 2.3 miles, walking trails cover the upper and lower levels of campus or take you into downtown Cortland and back.

Recreational Sports

Use your leisure time productively and make a lifelong commitment to fitness by participating in a variety of campus recreation options, including basketball, racquetball, dance, swimming, Tae Kwon Do, volleyball, tennis, soccer or flag football, among others.

Intramural Sports

You and your friends can compete in more than 60 intramural sports and special events ranging from table tennis to floor hockey and Ultimate Frisbee. You may even end up on our Wall of Champions!

Sport Clubs

Make new friends and get serious about your favorite activities through our many sport clubs. Learn a new sport, improve your skills and compete against other schools in groups that include skiing/snowboarding, paintball, dance, rugby or outdoor adventuring.

Cortland Bike Program

Jump on one of our distinctively decorated and individually named yellow bikes to get wherever you need to go on campus. With our strategically placed bike racks, this clean, green and healthy route to transportation lets you pick up a two-wheeler in one location and drop it off at your destination.

Ice Arena

Enjoy skating or playing hockey at the Park Center Alumni Ice Arena from October through February.

Campus Safety

Stay safe at SUNY Cortland by learning more about our emergency blue light phone system and free on-campus and downtown bus shuttles. Check out the stats on campus crime and prevention. Find copies of our annual Campus Safety Report in the residence halls and campus offices.

Emergency Notification System

Receive emergency alerts by phone or text message sent directly to you or through campus and area radio stations, the College’s website and visual messaging system. SUNY Cortland’s emergency notifications system also includes campus fire alarms, sirens and loudspeakers. Our broad system of notification ensures your safety.

Student Conduct

Do your part as a member of the SUNY Cortland community and learn about community expectations, both on and off campus, as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct. Each of us helps maintain an environment that fosters personal integrity, justice, equality and diversity. The Student Conduct Office promotes a living and learning environment designed to support your individual growth and development. You can become a leader and apply to serve as a student justice on the Judicial Review Board or the College Hearing Panel.
