Prior to departure, all students studying on a SUNY Cortland study abroad program are automatically enrolled in a United Health Care Insurance policy. The cost of insurance is included in the study abroad program fee, which is billed to you by the SUNY school that is administering your study abroad program. The SUNY Cortland Student Accounts Office enrolls the student prior to departure.
The United Health Care policy covers accident and illness and will be active for the official dates of your study abroad program. It is required that you are enrolled in the United Health Care policy for the official dates of your program. If you depart early for abroad or return late from abroad, you have the option to contact studyabroad@cortland.edu to have the dates of your policy extended to cover the entirety of your time abroad.
If you are a SUNY Cortland student participating on a non-Cortland study abroad program, health insurance is managed by the campus or program administering your study abroad. Please contact the study abroad advisor at your administrating campus or program for insurance details. It may be required for you to opt-in to an international insurance policy.
Once enrolled, you will receive an enrollment verification email from notifications@uhcsr.com (check your junk mail folder). By following the instructions on that email, you can access the United Health Care Global website, where you can print and view your insurance ID card, review policy information, access health profiles for countries around the world, access medical translations and information on immunizations, find international doctors and hospitals that accept UHC, submit claims, and more.
If you do not receive the enrollment verification email prior to departure, please check the junk mail folders in your email. If you have any trouble accessing your account or viewing your ID card, please contact studyabroad@cortland.edu. Please note that the enrollment verification email will be sent to your Cortland email address, which non-Cortland students can access through myRedDragon.
You can also set up and log in to your account by going directly to the United Healthcare Student Resources website and selecting the “Create Account” button. To set up your account, you will be asked to verify your credentials using your first name, last name, date of birth, and they email address associated with your account (usually your cortland.edu account, but possibly another one if you are not a Cortland student and you noted a different one on you study abroad application).
UHC also has a smartphone app that you can download to keep track of your policy. Download the United Healthcare Student Resources App today to have all of the information with you anytime you travel and are connected to Wi-Fi.
