Two lean-tos or open camps are available to SUNY Cortland alumni, faculty/staff, guests, and students by reservation. The lean-to closest to the water is named Beach and the one on the hill shall be named Wood. The lean-tos are accessible by water only and are approximately a two mile paddle from Antlers. Canoes may be rented from Antlers for $25 per day with prior notice. There are times when no canoes will be available. A reservation of a lean-to does not ensure that canoes will be available. A separate reservation for canoes must be submitted. The SUNY Cortland staff reserve the right to prohibit launch in cases of inclement weather, fog, or darkness. There are no provisions for motorized boat.
Reservations
Reservations must be made a minimum of one week prior to intended stay. Reservation may be obtained by email or phone 607-753-5488 or outdoor.edinfo@cortland.edu. Those camping without a reservation will be asked to leave. Cancellations should be called in as soon as possible. A no-show cancellation may affect your future reservation.
You must be a SUNY Cortland affiliated person to reserve a lean-to. No person under 18 years of age can reserve the lean-to. The person who made the reservation is responsible for the conduct of all persons in the party and is liable for any violations of rules and regulations committed. No person under 18 years of age shall be permitted to camp unless they are accompanied and supervised during their stay by a person who is 18 years of age or older and who has signed the reservation agreement for the camping party.
All persons using Camp Marion for any purpose must register with SUNY Cortland staff. A list of all campers, including one emergency contact of an individual not camping, must be left with the SUNY Cortland staff at Antlers.
Check-in and out times will be designated on the reservation form and confirmed with SUNY Cortland staff. You will need to consider the travel time to Camp Marion and sunrise/sunset times. Check-in/out times at Antlers shall not take place before 9 a.m. or after 6 p.m.
Camp Set Up
The maximum number of campers at each lean-to site is 10. Tents may be set up and utilized; however, the erection of tents in lean-tos is prohibited. Upon termination of camping all equipment, supplies and trash must be removed.
The use of wood, nails, screws or other fasteners is prohibited. No person shall erect, construct, occupy or maintain any structure that is affixed to a tree by nails, screws or other means that injure or damage the tree. Permanent or quasi-permanent structures are prohibited.
Camp Marion is used for temporary camping and adjacent lands must be kept in a neat, clean and sanitary condition. Garbage and refuse must be carried out. Transfer station in the village is open daily 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from Memorial Day through Columbus Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. the rest of the year except Tuesdays.
Long Point has its fair share of animals including black bear, fisher, pine martin and many food-loving mammals. Food, scented items, and trash should be hung in bear bags or put in bear canisters while not being used. Baiting animals with food or refuse at any time is prohibited.
One shared outhouse is available for campers use.
Fires
Fires at Camp Marion must be built in the fireplaces provided for that purpose. Campfires are not bonfires; campfires shall not expand beyond the boundaries of the built fire places or reach a height of more than three feet. Under no circumstances should fuel oil, gasoline, or other propellants be used to start campfires. Dead and downed wood shall be used for fires. The use of live branches and trees for firewood is prohibited. Purchased firewood may be packed in; however it must be purchased within 50 miles to help control the spread of invasive insect and plant species. No chain saws may be used.
Campfire safety should be exercised at all times. The fire shall be kept under control and monitored at all times. Safety includes never burning aerosol cans or pressurized containers, glass, metal or aluminum cans. Prior to leaving Camp Marion all fires must be extinguished. “If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave,” Smokey the Bear. We reserve the right to prohibit campfires during periods of high fire danger.
General Rules
Campers are welcomed to use the foot trails on the point, although Camp Huntington, Kirby Camp, and private properties are off limits. Be respectful of our neighbors on the point.
Planning in advance is important. You will be responsible for your own water source and purification methods.
Quiet hours will be observed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly.
The possession of fireworks of any nature, firearms, paintball guns, paintballs and the like are strictly prohibited. Hunting and trapping on any portion of SUNY Cortland property is prohibited at all times.
No person shall deface, remove, destroy or otherwise injure in any manner whatsoever any tree, flower, shrub, fern, fungi or other plant organisms, moss or other plant, rock, soil, fossil or mineral or object of archaeological or paleontological interest found or growing on Long Point. Practice Leave No Trace ethics.

Two parking spots per lean-to will be available at Antlers. The cars’ description and plate number shall be shared with SUNY Cortland staff at the time of check-in.
