Fall 2016 Arrival Schedule

We assign a specified time frame for you to move in based on your building and the floor you live on. View the schedule.

Thursday, Aug. 25

Halls open from 1 - 4 p.m. New students attending orientation and approved early arrivals may move in.

Friday, Aug. 26

Halls open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. New students who attended orientation may move in.

Saturday, Aug. 27

Halls open from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both new and returning students may move in.

Sunday, Aug. 28

Halls open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Both new and returning students may move in.

Refer to myRedDragon after August 1 for your specific move-in time based on your room assignment.

Early Arrival

Are you interested in moving in earlier than Friday, Saturday, or Sunday? Sign up for Blaze's Opening Crew! All participants will receive a free t-shirt. You can sign up between August 1-21. This is the only way you will be able to arrive early if you are returning or if you have already attended orientation.

New Students

If you have already attended orientation and want to arrive on Thursday, August 25, sign up for Blaze's Opening Crew. You will be permitted to move in between 1-4 p.m. on Thursday and will work a five hour shift on Friday to help other students move in. You will have the option to work 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or noon - 5 p.m. Sign up on myRedDragon between August 1-21.

Returning Students

If you want to arrive on Thursday, August 25, sign up for Blaze's Opening Crew. You will be permitted to move in between 1 - 4 p.m. on Thursday and will work a five hour shift on Friday and the other five hour shift on Saturday. You will have the option to work 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or noon - 5 p.m. 

If you want to arrive on Friday, August 26, sign up for Blaze's Opening Crew. You will be permitted to move in between 3 - 5 p.m. on Friday and will work a five hour shift on Saturday to help students move in. You will have the option to work 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or noon - 5 p.m.

Sign up on myRedDragon between August 1-21. Once logged into myRedDragon:

  1. Go to the student tab. Under Residence Life and Housing select "Housing Process and Information."
  2. Go to Forms and select "Early Arrival Form- Blaze's Opening Crew."
  3. Complete that. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation screen and email.
  4. You may make changes to your form through August 21.

Off Campus Residents

If you want to participate in Blaze's Opening Crew and you do not live on campus, don't worry! You still can! Send an e-mail to Sarah Nardone in Residence Life and Housing with your name, shirt size, and the day and time you would like to work. It's that easy! We are open to full clubs and organizations sign up too. Please let us know by August 21.

Before You Get Here

Purchase what you need for your room. Coordinate with your roommate to decide who is bringing what shared items like the TV, refrigerator and rug. Refer to our “What to Bring and What Not to Bring” document and print off our suggested shopping list to bring with you.

Label your items

Label all items you will move into your room with your name, residence hall and room number. To make this process easier we have created labels that you can download and print onto your own label sheets (or just print them on regular paper and tape them on). You can use 2"x4" labels (Avery 5163). If you would like to receive assistance moving in your belongings, make sure your items are labeled (including your fan, refrigerator and any other loose items you have in addition to boxes and bags).

When You Get Here

When you arrive on campus SUNY Cortland staff will be available to make the move-in process one of the easiest you will ever experience. Here is what you can expect:

  1. A University Police officer will direct you where to go to move in.
  2. Once parked, one person must stay with the vehicle.
  3. Complete the info card and place on the dashboard of your vehicle.
  4. Check in and pick up your room key.
  5. Unload vehicle immediately as instructed by staff.
  6. As soon as your vehicle is empty, move it to the Park Center parking lot. Buses will be available to shuttle you back to the residence halls.

West Campus Apartments  

Students assigned to West Campus Apartments should go directly to the West Campus Recreation Center to check in.

Elevators

The following halls have elevators and require you to place your belongings in a pre-marked location to wait to use the elevator:

  • Alger Hall
  • Casey Tower
  • Cheney Hall
  • Clark Hall
  • DeGroat Hall
  • Dragon Hall
  • Fitzgerald Hall
  • Glass Tower Hall
  • Higgins Hall
  • Smith Tower

Blaze's Opening Crew

We want you to be a part of our crew! If you are interested in helping with the move-in process, sign up by August 21 using the appropriate link below. You will be notified of your assignment and other important information via the email address you provide shortly after the deadline.

  • Greet students and their families
  • Help families unload the car and move belongings into the residence hall
  • Assist with traffic control
  • Receive a “Blaze’s Opening Crew” t-shirt
  • Get your organization out there

Faculty and Staff Volunteers

  • Dates: August 26, new students and/or August 27, returning students
  • Volunteer times: you choose the time between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Sign up today (faculty/staff ONLY; campus residents, please see below)

Student Clubs and Organizations

  • Dates: August 26, new students and/or August 27, returning students
  • Volunteer times: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or noon - 4 p.m.

We will do our best to keep your group together, but depending on the number of volunteers, we may need to split you between more than one residence hall.

On Campus Residents

  • Dates: dependent on your new/returning student status and the date you return
    • New students moving in on Thursday: August 26 (one shift required)
    • Returning students moving in on Thursday: August 26 and August 27 (two shifts required)
    • Returning students moving in on Friday: August 27 (one shift required)
  • Volunteer times: 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. or 12 - 5 p.m.
  • Sign up on myRedDragon between August 1-21. Once logged into myRedDragon:
