Tuition/Aid

The Excelsior Scholarship

SUNY Cortland is proud to participate in New York State’s Excelsior Scholarship program, a first-of-its-kind initiative that has been established to help eligible middle-class students offset the cost of tuition.

Visit the College’s Excelsior Scholarship webpage to learn more about eligibility criteria and the answers to common frequently asked questions.

What We Know So Far

    • $110,000 in 2018-19
    • $125,000 in 2019-20 and thereafter
  • If a student was previously enrolled in college, they must have completed at least 30 credits per year in the program of study to qualify. If previous credits were earned at a private college, at least 30 credits per year must be accepted when a student transfers to SUNY Cortland in order to qualify.
  • Students must complete at least 30 credits per year.
  • Awards are limited to four years or the expected length of a program.
  • Students must have their GPA certified by the College indicating that coursework has been successfully completed.
  • Students must live in New York state for the continuous number of years equal to the duration that they received the award. There is no requirement that the student be employed during that period, but he or she cannot work in another state.
  • If a student fails to meet these requirements, the award will be converted to a student loan.

The New York State Higher Education Service Corporation will establish application procedures and select eligible recipients. You can sign up to receive an alert when the application becomes available.
