Yomee Lee and Sam L. Kelley
Yomee Lee, Kinesiology and Africana Studies departments, and Sam L. Kelley, Communication Studies and Africana Studies departments, presented on “Racism & White Privilege” at the Stony Point Conference Center on Oct. 18, 2013. Lee addressed the stereotypes of Asians as depicted in popular culture, with an emphasis on film and advertising and how the depictions influence perceptions about Asians. Kelley presented on racial profiling against the backdrop of the civil rights movement and the impact since 9/11. The event was organized by the Public Policy Advocacy Network of the Synod of the Northeast New York.

Ryan Vooris, Sport Management Department, was a finalist for Best Paper at the 2016 Sport Marketing Association Conference, held Nov. 2-4 in Indianapolis, Ind. The paper is titled “Development of a Motivational Scale for Sport Twitter Consumption.”

Jordan Kobritz
Jordan Kobritz, Sports Management Department, attended and presented at AFIDE 2017, the 7th International Convention of Physical Activity and Sports, which was held from Nov. 20-24 in Havana, Cuba. The title of Jordan’s presentation was “Sport Management: The Business of Sports.”

Brian Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his book, Knowledge and the Future of the Curriculum: International Studies in Social Realism, published by Palgrave Macmillan. The book was edited with Elizabeth Rata, University of Auckland, New Zealand.
Robert Spitzer
Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, gave a talk on, “Is Gun Control Un-American or at Least Unconstitutional?” at Temple Concord in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 14 as part of the temple’s scholars series. On Oct. 25, Spitzer presented “The American Gun Debate is Under Water” at the TEDxCortland Conference held at Tinelli’s Hathaway House in Cincinnatus, N.Y.
Tyler Bradway
Tyler Bradway, English Department, received a book contract from Duke University Press for Queer Kinship: Erotic Affinities and the Politics of Belonging, which he is co-editing with Elizabeth Freeman from University of California, Davis. The book examines queer conceptions and practices of family, reproduction and belonging, and it features contributions from foundational scholars of LGBTQ+ kinship, including Judith Butler, Kath Weston and Mark Rifkin.

Jordan Kobritz, Sport Management Department, presented at the 28th Annual Sport and Recreation Law Association Conference on March 4-7 in Charlotte, N.C. The title of his presentations were “Wind, Rain and Injuries: An Analysis of the Legal Risks Associated with Tarp Duty,” and “How Much is Too Much? Is the Unlimited Authority of the NFL Commissioner No Longer in the ‘Best Interests of the Game?’”
Richard Hunter
Richard Hunter, Geography Department, spoke at a colloquium hosted by the Department of Geography at National Taiwan University in Taipei on Jan. 3. His presentation focused on his use of Geographic Information Systems to better understand the causes of historical environmental change in Mexico's tropical highlands.
