Evan Faulkenbury, History Department, had his peer-reviewed article, ‘“Monroe is Hell’: Voter Purges, Registration Drives, and the Civil Rights Movement in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana,” published in the Winter 2018 issue of Louisiana History.

Lin Lin

Lin Lin, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, is the lead author for an article, “Expanding the Global View through Children’s books: Bringing South Asians and South Asian Americans to K-6 Curriculum,” published Nov. 1 in the Ohio Social Studies Review.

Anna Curtis

Anna Curtis, Sociology/Anthropology Department, presented a paper titled “Paternity and the Paradigms of Possibility: Comparing Two Fatherhood Programs in American Prisons” at the 2015 International Conference on Masculinities held March 5-7 in New York City.

Erica Pratt

Erica Pratt, Physical Education Department, will be inducted in the Movement Science Alumni Hall of Fame at Westfield State University on Thursday, April 22.

Richard Hunter

Richard Hunter, Geography Department, has been appointed a contributing editor to the Handbook of Latin American Studies. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the Handbook is the oldest and most prestigious areas studies bibliography in the world.

Pete Ducey

Pete Ducey, Biological Sciences Department, recently gave an invited presentation at Cornell University titled “Superfund Herpetology: Decades of Change at Onondaga Lake” hosted by the Cornell Herpetological Society. The presentation discussed the research and consulting work of Ducey, his students and faculty colleagues concerning the amphibian and reptile populations living in the highly disturbed ecosystem of Onondaga Lake and its surrounding wetlands. Also highlighted were the rolls of Cortland’s research team in assisting the federal and state governmental agencies, as well as environmental consulting firms, with their efforts at restoration at that site.

James Hokanson

James Hokanson, Kinesiology Department, was senior investigator on a research study with kinesiology undergraduate student Allison Schumann, who was awarded Top Five Student Researcher at the American College of Sports Medicine regional conference held Nov. 3 and 4 in Harrisburg, Pa. There were more than 100 submissions from colleges and research 1 universities throughout the mid-Atlantic region, and over 700 attendees. Their research explores running economy on a lower body positive pressure treadmill.

John Suarez

John Suarez, Institute for Civic Engagement, hosted the SUNY Consortium of Community Engaged Leaders’ first roundtable discussion, “Convening and Facilitating Community Forums.” Public deliberations are a kind of community forum. Suarez described the nature and purposes of community forums and identified steps for planning and conducting a forum. Participants then discussed related ideas such as working with the United Way to do a poverty simulation activity called the A.L.I.C.E. (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Project and connecting with ThinkTank-inc.org. Participants included faculty and staff from Albany, Canton, Delhi, Empire State College and Upstate Medical Center.

Tadayuki Suzuki

Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, presented “Discussing the Missing Piece of the Puzzle: LGBTQ Books for Children in Intermediate Grade Levels” to the National Council of Teachers of English on Nov. 21 in Minneapolis, Minn.
