Chelsea M. Norton

Chelsea M. Norton, a graduate student in the Kinesiology Department, was recently named one of the American Kinesiology Association’s 2013 Graduate Scholars. The award recognizes her commitment to promoting and enhancing kinesiology as a unified field of study and advancing its many applications.

Robert Darling

Robert Darling, geology, recently co-authored a paper appearing in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters. The paper, titled "Hydrothermal Heat Flow Near the Main Central Thrust, Central Nepal Himalaya" summarizes the loss of geothermal heat from the Himalayan Mountains, the tallest mountain range on Earth.

Barbara Wisch

Barbara Wisch, art and art history, received funding to present at the National Endowment for the Humanities' 2010 Summer Institute for College Teachers. "Ritual and Ceremony from Late-Medieval Europe to Early America." It is sponsored by the Folger Institute from June 21-July 23. Wisch will present in the session titled "Traditions and Transformations on the Continent" on Monday, July 5, and Tuesday, July 6.

Robert Spitzer

Robert Spitzer, political science, presented a paper titled "The Post-Bush Presidency and the Constitutional Order" at a panel on "Assessing Executive Power Before, During and After the Bush Presidency." The panel was held during the Sept. 3-6 annual meeting of the American Political Science Association in Toronto, Canada.

Christopher McRoberts

Christopher McRoberts, geology, was interviewed for an "Animal Planet" episode of "Animal Armageddon," which aired on Sept. 10. The episode, titled "Strangled" was about the end-Triassic mass extinction, one of the five biggest in the history of life that took place 200 million years ago.

Robert Spitzer

Robert Spitzer, political science, is the author of a chapter titled "Leading Elite Opinion: Law Reviews and the Distortion of Scholarship" in the recently published book, Leadership at the Crossroads, published by Praeger.

Jeffrey Radloff, Angela Pagano and Dominick Fantacone

Jeffrey Radloff, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, Angela Pagano, Biological Sciences Department, and Dominick Fantacone, School of Education and regional director for the New York State Master Teacher Program, presented a paper titled, “Secondary Master STEM Teachers’ Tensions with Transitioning to Remote Instruction” on Jan. 15 at the International Conference of the Association of Science Teacher Education.

David Barclay

David Barclay, geology, recently had a paper titled "Holocene Glacier Fluctuations in Alaska" published in Quaternary Science Reviews. This paper synthesized evidence of ice margin changes in Alaska over the past 10,000 years and appeared in the special volume of similar data for glaciers around the world.

David Kilpatrick

David Kilpatrick, Psychology Department, was named last fall as the managing editor of a new journal, The Reading League Journal. The journal articles are written by top researchers from around the world and summarizes scientific findings on reading development and reading difficulties/disabilities. The unique feature of this publication is that it is not written for other researchers but rather for educational professionals working in schools (teachers, administrators, speech pathologists, and school psychologists). The journal will have three issues per year, fall, winter and spring. The first issue was published in January.

Janet Duncan

Janet Duncan, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, recently returned from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, where she worked with two nongovernmental organizations, Partnerships for Human Rights (PHR) and Families against Discrimination (FAD). Both groups are working toward supporting individuals with disabilities to improve their educational opportunities and rightful place in society. She visited three institutions that are featured in the PBS series “The Visionaries,” hosted by Sam Waterston, featuring the working of Disability Rights International (DRI). Based on DRI’s work, with input from Duncan, DRI will be making a series of policy presentations to government officials from Georgia in the spring.
