Paul Arras, Communication and Media Studies Department, presented a paper at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association annual conference held April 5 to 8. The paper was titled “9/11 News Coverage, From the Moment to Collective Memory.”

Susan J. Rayl

Susan J. Rayl, Kinesiology Department, wrote a biography of Albert “Runt” Pullins, a former Harlem Globetrotter, that was published in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement program. Pullins is a member of the 2022 class and was enshrined posthumously during ceremonies on Sept. 10 in Springfield, Mass.

Robert Spitzer

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, is the author of the just-published seventh edition of his book, The Politics of Gun Control. First published in 1995, the book has become the standard on the subject. It has been updated to include the most recent developments of this controversial subject and is published by Routledge Publishers.

Melissa Morris

Melissa Morris, Physics Department, has been asked by Scientific American to comment on a recent paper appearing in the peer-reviewed journal Icarus titled “A new mechanism for chondrule formation: Radiative heating by hot planetesimals,” by Herbst & Greenwood (2016).

Tiantian Zheng

Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, was invited by Oberlin College, Ohio, to deliver a campus-wide talk on April 4 on her book Tongzhi Living: Men Attracted to Men in Postsocialist China

Jeremiah Donovan

Jeremiah Donovan, Art and Art History Department, had his recent ceramic sculptural work selected by jury for inclusion in the Arnot Art Museum’s 73rd Fine Art Exhibition in Elmira, N.Y. The exhibit includes 16 selected artists using various mediums. It will open Tuesday, Oct. 11, and continue through Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.

Robert Spitzer, Political Science Department, presented a paper titled, “The Constitution Between Opponents: Comparing the Use of Presidential Powers by Bush and Obama,” at a conference on “The State of the Presidency,” hosted by the Cecil Andrus Center for Public Policy on Feb. 28 at Boise State University, Boise, Idaho.

Erik Lind, Larissa True, Debbie Van Langen and Jim Hokanson and John Foley

Erik Lind, Larissa True, Debbie Van Langen and Jim Hokanson, Kinesiology Department and John Foley, Physical Education Department, recently co-authored a paper that was published in the journal Sports. Lindsey Taylor (Funch) M.S. ’15 Exercise Science was the lead author on the paper, which is titled “Four Weeks of Off-Season Training Improves Peak Oxygen Consumption in Female Field Hockey Players.”

Melissa McGrady, Esq.

Melissa McGrady, Esq., University Police Department, recently received certification from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services as a police juvenile officer. Her certification completes the department’s goal to have four juvenile officers in preparation for the state’s Raise the Age initiative. By October 2018, the age for criminal responsibility will be raised to 18 years of age. With the new law in place, many first-year students that are 17 years old will now be treated as juveniles should they enter the criminal justice system.

Denise D. Knight, English Department, presented a paper titled “Charlotte Perkins Gilman In and On Italy” at the Transatlantic Women II Conference held in June in Florence, Italy.
