Jesse Bloom Bateman

Jesse Bloom Bateman, Biological Sciences Department, coauthored a paper that recently was published in Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry. The article is titled: Carbonate clumped isotope analysis (Δ47) of 21 carbonate standards determined via gas-source isotope-ratio mass spectrometry on four instrumental configurations using carbonate-based standardization and multiyear data sets) of 21 carbonate standards determined via gas-source isotope-ratio mass spectrometry on four instrumental configurations using carbonate-based standardization and multiyear data sets.

Brian D. Barrett

Brian D. Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his article, “Is Interdisciplinarity Old News? A Disciplined Consideration of Interdisciplinarity,” published in the current issue of the British Journal of Sociology of Education. Aspects of the article were developed in papers he presented at a Sandwich Seminar titled “Is it the End of the University as We Know It: Do We Feel Fine?” at SUNY Cortland, in October 2009, and as plenary speaker at the Sixth International Basil Bernstein Symposium in Brisbane, Australia, in July 2010. 

Tiantian Zheng

Tiantian Zheng, Sociology/Anthropology Department, spoke at the international conference organized by University of Vienna in Vienna on April 17. Her presentation was titled “Criminal Intimacies: Sexual Geographies and the State.”

Nick Koziol

Nick Koziol, Alumni Affairs Office, recently learned that his office was awarded a National Educational Alumni Trust (NEAT) grant to assist with an alumni communications audit. The grant, which Koziol discovered and applied for, will fund research into how alumni communicate and how they want to communicate with the College. The findings will be used to re-vamp the SUNY Cortland’s alumni communications strategy. 

Kristine Newhall

Kristine Newhall, Kinesiology Department, was a source for the Wondery podcast Sports Explains the World. She provided information about Title IX, women’s sports and the legal and cultural issues surrounding competitive cheer used in Episodes 19 and 20. 

Carolyn Bershad

Carolyn Bershad, Counseling and Student Development, has learned that the office was awarded full re-accreditation by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), the only association that accredits counseling services on university and college campuses. Approval by IACS is dependent upon evidence of continuing professional development as well as demonstration of excellence in counseling performance. The office offers individual and group counseling for students, as well as consultation and outreach to the campus community.

Moyi Jia

Moyi Jia, Communication and Media Studies Department, presented with her co-author at the National Communication Association annual convention, held virtually in October. Their study is titled “Promoting Mental Health on Social Media: A Content Analysis of Organizations’ Tweets” and was accepted by Health Communication division.

Lisa Czirr, Jeremy Pekarek and Hilary Wong

Lisa Czirr, Jeremy Pekarek and Hilary Wong of Memorial Library presented virtually at Eastern New York Association of College and Research Libraries on Wednesday, May 19. The title of the presentation was “New Visions for Old Tools: Reinventing Libguides for Online Instruction during COVID.”  

Ben Wodi

Ben Wodi, Health Department, served as Environmental-Occupational Safety and Health Career panelist and workshop facilitator at the American Public Health Association annual conference held Nov. 4 to 8 in Atlanta.

Ryan Vooris

Ryan Vooris, Sport Management Department, had a research article about perceptions of media bias among viewers of ESPN published in Communication & Sport.
