Gregg Weatherby
Gregg Weatherby, English Department, served as a consultant for a number of books on poet Paul Blackburn: The Blackburn Reader to be published by Shearsman; an as yet untitled book of critical essays to be published by Macmillan (followed by a symposium at the University of Kent, UK); and a reissue of Blackburn's translation of selected Provencal poets, Proensa, to be published by the New York Review of Books. In addition to being a poet and translator, Blackburn was also a member of the English Department faculty 1970-71.
Erin Morris
Erin Morris, Sport Management Department, presented “Creating and Implementing the ‘Gender Identity Training: Respecting Pronouns’ on Campus” at the 2022 SUNY SPECTRUM Conference, held Sept. 15 and 16 in New York City. The conference featured speakers that helped to educate about the most significant concerns impacting the LGBTQIA+ college community in the U.S. today. SUNY Cortland’s Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Committee created a training around respecting pronouns aimed to educate faculty and staff across campus about what pronouns are, why using correct pronouns are important, and how to practice and implement inclusive language in our everyday lives. Morris’ presentation discussed the creation and implementation of this training module.

Denise D. Knight, English Department, will present a talk titled “Charlotte Perkins Gilman on and in Italy” at the Transatlantic Women II Conference in June in Florence, Italy.

Eric Malmberg, Physical Education Department, received an outstanding professional award at the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS-AHPERD) Conference held in Verona, N.Y., in November.
Thomas S. Hischak
Thomas S. Hischak, Performing Arts Department, has signed a contract with Rowman & Littlefield to publish his book, The 100 Greatest American Plays. Rowman recently released Hischak’s The Encyclopedia of Film Composers, the first comprehensive guide to the life and work of 252 international movie soundtrack composers.
Seth N. Asumah
Seth N. Asumah, Africana Studies and Political Science departments, recently was appointed by the Association of African Universities and the Carnegie Diaspora Linkage Fellowship Program as an international invigilator and examiner for doctoral programs in Africa. Asumah will be travelling to the University of Ghana, Legon Ghana and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, as an international examiner for doctoral dissertation defenses from April 22-30.
Erik Lind
Erik Lind, Kinesiology Department, presented at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) regional meeting Nov. 3 and 4 in Harrisburg, Pa. The research, titled “Heart Rate, Perceived Exertion and Speech Characteristics across Cycling Exercise Intensity Levels,” was co-authored by Communication Disorders and Science graduate student Sarah E. Fuller ’17, Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies Eileen Gravani, and Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Kevin D. Dames.
Alexandru Balas
Alexandru Balas, International Studies Program and Clark Center for International Education, recently had his book, Peace Operations, published by Polity Press. The book, in its 2nd edition, is co-authored with Paul F. Diehl.

- Traces the historical development of peace operations from their origins in the early 20th century through the development of modern peace building missions and multiple simultaneous peace operations.
- Tracks changes over time in the size, mission and organization of peace operations.
- Analyses different organizational, financial, and troop provisions for peace operations, as well as assessing alternatives.
- Lays out criteria for evaluating peace operations and details the conditions under which such operations are successful.
