Danica Savonick

Danica Savonick, English Department, had her article, “What Can Our Writing Do in the World? The Feminist Praxis of Publishing Student Writing,” published in November in Radical Teacher. This article situates the practice of publishing student writing within a longer history of feminist teaching methods. It also features the original writing of two SUNY Cortland students, seniors Lacey Bartlett and Taylor Price.

Moyi Jia

Moyi Jia, Communication and Media Studies Department, presented with her co-author at the National Communication Association annual convention, held virtually in October. Their study is titled “Promoting Mental Health on Social Media: A Content Analysis of Organizations’ Tweets” and was accepted by Health Communication division.

Richard Hunter

Richard Hunter, Geography Department, has been appointed a contributing editor to the Handbook of Latin American Studies. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the Handbook is the oldest and most prestigious areas studies bibliography in the world.

Brian Barrett

Brian Barrett, Foundations and Social Advocacy Department, had his book, Basil Bernstein: Code theory and beyond, published by Springer.

Beth Klein

Beth Klein, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, was recently named SUNY Cortland’s part-time sustainability coordinator. She has a longstanding record of advocacy for the preservation of the environment and is involved in many sustainability initiatives both on and off campus. These include local food groups, Sustainable Cortland, campus-wide sustainability curriculum projects and energy saving activities, and the Cortland Green Days project. Klein regularly hosts students and area science teachers at Raquette Lake and is a prominent member of the President’s Climate Action Planning Committee.

Melissa Morris

Melissa Morris, Physics Department, and coauthors presented their work, “Radiative Cooling Rates in Planetesimal Impact Ejecta,” at the 79th annual meeting of The Meteoritical Society, held Aug. 7-12 in Berlin, Germany.

Kathryn Kramer

Kathryn Kramer, Art and Art History Department, presented “Flanerie’s Art and Measure of the Globalizing City” at the College Art Association (CAA) conference in February. In March, she presented an expanded version of the CAA lecture for Shanghai Flaneur, a cultural think tank in Shanghai, China. In addition, her review of the Shanghai Biennale will appear in the Sept./Oct. 2013 issue of Afterimage: The Journal of Media Art and Cultural Criticism

Kate McCormick

Kate McCormick, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, had her book review published in Contemporary Issues in Early Childhood. The review discusses the book Power play: Explorado y empujando fronteras en una escuela en Tejas through a multilingual play-based early learning curriculum.

Tadayuki Suzuki

Tadayuki Suzuki, Literacy Department, presented “Discussing the Missing Piece of the Puzzle: LGBTQ Books for Children in Intermediate Grade Levels” to the National Council of Teachers of English on Nov. 21 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Wylie Schwartz

Wylie Schwartz, Art and Art History Department, will present two papers at the 13th triennial NORDIK Conference of Art History in the Nordic Countries to be held virtually from Oct. 24 to 28. Her papers are titled “The Autonomous Third Element: Asger Jorn’s Theory of Experimental Creativity” and “Artspotting: Collecting the Ephemeral in 1960s Postwar Art.”
