Jesse Bloom Bateman

Jesse Bloom Bateman, Biological Sciences Department, coauthored a paper that recently was published in Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry. The article is titled: Carbonate clumped isotope analysis (Δ47) of 21 carbonate standards determined via gas-source isotope-ratio mass spectrometry on four instrumental configurations using carbonate-based standardization and multiyear data sets) of 21 carbonate standards determined via gas-source isotope-ratio mass spectrometry on four instrumental configurations using carbonate-based standardization and multiyear data sets.

Jennifer Moore, Janet Ochs, Jeremy Pekarek and Hilary Wong, Memorial Library, presented virtually at the New York Archives Conference June 12. The title of the presentation was “If you've got it flaunt it: Revitalizing the archives through collaborative exhibits.”

Lin Lin

Lin Lin, Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department, is the lead author for an article, “Expanding the Global View through Children’s books: Bringing South Asians and South Asian Americans to K-6 Curriculum,” published Nov. 1 in the Ohio Social Studies Review.

Diane H. Craft

Diane H. Craft, Physical Education Department, along with children’s singer/songwriter Vincent, presented the keynote lecture at the Massachusetts Association for the Education of Young Children (MassAEYC) annual statewide conference held March 16-17 in Westford, Mass. Craft also gave two workshops on developmentally appropriate physical activities to the early childhood educators in attendance.

Joshua Peck

Joshua Peck, Psychology Department, had his article, “Environmental enrichment induces early heroin abstinence in an animal conflict model,” published in the recent issue of Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior. The findings suggest that environmental enrichment is an effective treatment strategy to support heroin abstinence in heroin seeking rats. The results may have important implications for human heroin addiction. 

John Suarez

John Suarez, Institute for Civic Engagement, hosted the SUNY Consortium of Community Engaged Leaders’ first roundtable discussion, “Convening and Facilitating Community Forums.” Public deliberations are a kind of community forum. Suarez described the nature and purposes of community forums and identified steps for planning and conducting a forum. Participants then discussed related ideas such as working with the United Way to do a poverty simulation activity called the A.L.I.C.E. (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) Project and connecting with ThinkTank-inc.org. Participants included faculty and staff from Albany, Canton, Delhi, Empire State College and Upstate Medical Center.

Herbert Haines

Herbert Haines, Sociology/Anthropology Department, was interviewed by a Northern Lights Productions video crew in August as part of a documentary film about protests against the classic silent film “The Birth of a Nation” in 1915. The documentary is scheduled to air nationally on PBS sometime in 2016.

Kristine Newhall

Kristine Newhall, Kinesiology Department, was a source for the Wondery podcast Sports Explains the World. She provided information about Title IX, women’s sports and the legal and cultural issues surrounding competitive cheer used in Episodes 19 and 20. 

Gregg Weatherby

Gregg Weatherby, English Department, had three of his poems featured on WSKG Public Broadcasting’s “Off the Page” Poetry Month celebration.
