The Four Newest Democracy Engagement Fellows
In April 2026, four faculty members became the newest Democracy Engagement Fellows. Each “DE” Fellow incorporated experiential learning into one of their syllabi; that experiential learning involves considering, reaching out to, or partnering with an appropriate government office.

Dragons for Democracy Intern and Criminology major Kaylynn Claudio designed and conducted her “Social Media, AI, and Jury Decision” mock trial event. Participants considered the extent to which artificial intelligence, the creators of AI, or the users of AI should be held accountable for crimes committed through the use of this technology.
Debate and Deliberate: AI in Your Career
Dragons for Democracy Intern and Performing Arts major Michelle Winderman designed and conducted her “Debate and Deliberate: Artificial Intelligence in Your Career” Workshop on May 1. The event helped ten participants consider the benefits and drawbacks of two ways of reaching decisions: debate and deliberation.
Preserving and Promoting America’s Revolutionary History: Lessons from New York’s Lake George Region. A Panel Discussion
On April 23, five panelists described the range of considerations that they balance as they plan enlightening and engaging experiences for visitors at historic parks in New York’s Lake George Region.
20 Individuals Awarded Leadership in Engagement Awards
On April 16, the Galpin Institute conducted its 21st Leadership in Engagement Awards Reception. Twenty people, including students, faculty, and members of the greater Cortland community, received a Leadership in Civic Engagement Award or a Leadership in Democracy Engagement Award.
