Beyond the Monolith: Resilience, Race, and the Myth of 'The Latine Student

A Sandwich Seminar for Latine Heritage Month:

“Latine” is not one story. In this talk, Dr. Tibisay Hernandez — equity leader, researcher, and first-generation scholar — draws on her original doctoral research with Latinx and Afro-Latinx college students to reveal what silence, over-performance, and quiet perseverance are really telling us. Faculty and staff will leave with a research-backed framework for recognizing resilience in its many forms, and practical tools for building trust with students before a crisis forces the conversation.
