The following courses are authorized by the New York State Education Department to partially meet requirements for coaching certification. Additional requirements for certification may be found at New York State Education Department: Guidelines for the Coaching Requirements (PDF). The courses are competency-based and must be taken one at a time.
- Course One: The Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education
- Course Two: Health Sciences Applied to Coaching
- Course Three: Theory and Techniques of Coaching
- This course is specific to one sport.
- The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) requires that for "contact/strenuous sports" (identified in the NYSPHSAA Handbook) Course Three must be repeated for each sport for which certification is sought.
- Course Three is partially based on the application of principles from Courses One and Two.
Coursework is completed via eLearning platforms. eLearning classrooms open at noon on the first day of course period. The FESP Office will email login instructions prior to the course beginning. Please note that all courses are non-credit bearing. Students will receive a Course Completion Certificate, within 2-3 weeks, upon satisfactory completion of a course.
