Open Air Pedagogies

Join us in a robust discussion about a variety of courses and programs that get students into the Open Air! We will explore the Cortland Community, the Adirondacks, and a variety of regions across Colombia South America.

Daira Elsa Quiñones, representative of AMDAE (Self-help Association for the Comprehensive Development and Entrepreneurship of Afro-Colombians), will be sharing about AMDAE's educational projects centered on Afro-Colombian ancestral ways of life and ethnic identity. Aulas Vivas (living classrooms) is an open-air pedagogy grounded on collective learning, cooperation, and relationships among humans and non-humans. 
Dr. Kelly Wessell, Professor of Biology at TC3, who will discuss his years of experience leading study abroad trips in Colombia and a newly developed program here at Cortland to explore Economies, Ecology, and Culture through the Amazon, Andes Mountains, Caribbean, and urban environments.   
Dr. Randi Storch, Distinguished Teaching Professor of History will discuss how she uses Cortland’s properties on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks to advance knowledge and teaching of the Gilded age and Progressive Era.  
This conversation will be moderated by Dr. Benjamin Wilson and interpretive services will be provided by Dr. Pilar File-Muriel.
