Fraternities and sororities are able to hold membership recruitment events each semester. Exceptions to this would be:
- Any NPC sorority at Total in the Fall semester. Total cannot be determined until after all Fall rosters have been submitted and verified as accurate. Total refers to the maximum number of members each chapter can have. All NPC chapters can take new members in the Spring.
- A chapter or colony under sanctions from either SUNY Cortland or their National that would prohibit them from doing so.
University Eligibility Requirements for Joining a Fraternity or Sorority
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at SUNY Cortland;
- Nu Sigma Chi and Alpha Sigma Phi are open to offering graduate students membership.
- Cannot be a first semester, first year student;
- Cannot be on either Academic Probation or Academic Warning;
- Must have successfully completed the necessary number of credit hours (12 for continuing students and 24 post-high school credit hours for incoming transfer students). The 12 credit hours for continuing students must have been completed at SUNY Cortland.
- Must have the necessary cumulative GPA (Minimum required by each organization for continuing students and 2.5 for all incoming transfer students).
- For most chapters that requirement is a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Exception is Alpha Phi Delta that requires at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- Other exceptions include any culturally based chapter with a GPA requirement higher than a 2.5.
- For most chapters that requirement is a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Incoming transfer students must provide a copy of their transcript(s) to the Campus Activities and Corey Union Office for verification. Transcripts can be sent electronically via email (unofficial copies are accepted.) Academic eligibility is reviewed by the school's Associate Director for Campus Activities and Greek Affairs.Keep in mind: The "Greek Advisor" does not have access to transcripts submitted for admission.
- Tips for accessing your transcript from previous colleges attended include:
- Go to website of previous school(s).
- Go to the Registrar's website for that school(s).
- Navigate through the website and find your unofficial transcript.
- Download send electronically (or print hard copy and drop off).
- Transcript must indicate:
- Your name, school name, cumulative GPA, cumulative credit hours earned.
- No college courses taken while in high school will count towards GPA or credit hours.
