What is Mathematica

Mathematica is a computational software program, integrating computation into complete workflows, used in scientific, engineering, and mathematical fields and other areas of technical computing.  To read more about Mathematica’s full scale use go to: http://www.wolfram.com

How to Get Mathematica

Mathematica is currently installed in some of the computer labs across campus.  To find out where the software is installed go here: http://colfax.cortland.edu/acsweb/lab_schedule.asp and click on the “search for software” link

  • Computer labs maintained by CTS

    If Mathematica is not installed in a particular computer lab, please submit a software request
  • Faculty and Staff, Campus-owned computers

    Submit a request via the online hardware software request system.

  • Faculty and Staff, personally owned machines

    Fill out this form to request a home-use license from Wolfram.

  • Student personally owned machines

    Follow the directions below to download from the Wolfram User Portal.

    1. Create an account (New users only):
      1. Go to user.wolfram.com and click "Create Account"
      2. Fill out form using a @cortland.edu email, and click "Create Wolfram ID"
      3. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID
    2. Request the download and key:
      1. Fill out this form to request an Activation Key
      2. Click the "Product Summary page" link to access your license
      3. Click "Get Downloads" and select "Download" next to your platform
      4. Run the installer on your machine, and enter Activation Key at prompt

Mathematica Tutorials

The first two tutorials are excellent for new users, and can be assigned to students as homework to learn Mathematica outside of class time.

    Access step-by-step instructions ranging from how to create animations to basic syntax information.

    Search Wolfram's large collection of materials for example calculations or tutorials in your field of interest.

Wolfram Function Repository 

The Function Repository is the go-to place for functions that aren't already built into the Wolfram Language. It contains a wide variety of new functions submitted by our talented user community and Wolfram staff, all immediately accessible from Wolfram Language 12. Any user can submit a function for review and publication using the Function Resource Definition Notebook, extending the Wolfram Language one function at a time with no need to create or download large libraries.
