2020 Honors Convocation Cancellation

We regret to inform you that the 2020 Honors Convocation scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 has been cancelled. Although we are disappointed, we understand the safety concerns and abide by the Chancellor’s and the Governor’s mandates.

  • The official 2020 Honors Convocation program will be sent to students’ home addresses after June 30, 2020.  
  • For those in the top 5%, a certificate will be included.
  • Departmental Awards will be distributed by the respective departments.

Honors Convocation Ceremony

Each spring, SUNY Cortland recognizes students for their academic achievements at the annual Honors Convocation. Students in the top five percent of their class are acknowledged and awards and scholarships are presented at the ceremony.

Top Five Percent Recognition

Students in the top five percent of their class are notified in late Feb. Invitations and letters from the President's Office are mailed to students and families, respectively. Students in the top five percent are asked to RSVP by date provided in the letter and should follow the instructions provided. 

Top Five Percent GPA Ranges

Seniors
90 or more credit hours completed. 
Cumulative GPA 3.91 to 4.18

Juniors
56.5 to 89.5 credit hours completed.
Cumulative GPA 3.89 to 4.18

Sophomores
25 to 56 credit hours completed. 
Cumulative GPA  3.83 to 4.07

Freshman
12 to 25.5 credit hours completed.
Cumulative GPA  3.81 to 4.0

Awards and Scholarships

Recipients of the awards and scholarships presented at Honors Convocation are determined in early March. Students are notified by the department or office that sponsors the award and receive a formal invitation to Honors Convocation from the President’s Office the week of March 13. Students should follow the RSVP instructions provided in the notification letter. 

Reception

A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony for all students, guests, faculty and staff. 

There are several academic events occurring the weekend of Honors Convocation, including various honor society inductions. Students will need to RSVP to events individually as indicated on each invitation.
