Scott Moranda

My research interests include Germany, Twentieth-Century Europe, Environmental History, Tourism, and Consumerism. My dissertation, “The Dream of a Therapeutic Regime: Nature Tourism in the German Democratic Republic, 1945-1978,” explores the planning and enjoyment of recreation areas in East Germany and demonstrates how the communist dictatorship won and lost consent through its management of the natural landscape. I currently am revising my dissertation into a book. I am also beginning a new "transnational" project examining environmental conservation and private property rights in Germany and the United States.
