Advisement and Transition

Advisement and Transition helps you transition to college and guides you through the advisement and registration process at SUNY Cortland. We assist you with planning your courses, choosing a major, navigating university policies and connecting with campus resources. Our office services include academic advising; COR 101 seminar course for first-year students; new student orientation; transfer credit services; early alert outreach (Starfish); and student support programming for graduate, non-traditional, transfer and undeclared students.

Open Advising during Drop/Add Period

The first week of classes is the drop/add period, and students can make adjustments to their semester schedule without a registration PIN.  Advisors will be available Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. throughout the week for brief (10-15 minute) advising meetings to assist with schedule changes - or to assist any new student with general questions about campus.  We are available:

  • In-person in our office, Memorial Library A-111.  Students hoping to transact a schedule change in person should plan to bring their laptop or other personal mobile device.
  • Virtual meetings in the Advisement Webex room
  • Via phone 607-753-4726
  • Chat - link at bottom of this page
