SUNY Cortland offers several programs to help employees further their education. Employees can use a single tuition benefit or combine it with others.

SUNY Tuition Waiver (B-140W)

Employees working at least half-time can receive 50% tuition reimbursement for courses taken at SUNY institutions, for up to two courses per semester. Applications are available in the Human Resources Office. 

UUP Tuition Waiver

The UUP Tuition Waiver allows eligible UUP employees to enroll in one course (up to 4 credit hours) per semester for free tuition, space permitting. Employees are responsible for any course fees. Applications are available in the Human Resources Office. 

CSEA Tuition Benefit Program

Eligible employees can receive a voucher for one credit-bearing course (up to 4 credits) at the resident tuition rate, capped at $305 per credit. Alternatively, they may choose either tuition for one non-credit course (up to $1,220) or one Excelsior College fee (up to $1,220). Unlimited reimbursement is available for credit-by-exam fees through CLEP, DANTES, TECP, and Excelsior College. All fees beyond tuition provided are the employee’s responsibility. Management/Confidential (M/C) Tuition Reimbursement

The M/C Tuition Reimbursement program offers employees up to 75% reimbursement for credit or non-credit courses, with a maximum of $1,750 per fiscal year. Eligible employees need six months of continuous employment and must work at least half-time. Course registration fees are reimbursable up to $100, and lab fees up to $75 per course. NYSCOPBA/Council 82 Tuition Reimbursement

Full-time employees can be reimbursed for 50% of tuition, registration, and lab fees for eligible courses, up to $600 per fiscal year. Eligible employees need six months of continuous employment. PS&T (PEF) Tuition Assistance

PS&T (PEF) Tuition Assistance provides eligible employees up to 6 PSTP tuition vouchers per fiscal year for courses at accredited institutions. Employees must cover tuition costs.   • Includes distance learning courses taken at any SUNY campus.
  • Courses must be directly job related or part of a degree program.
All employees; full-time and part-time (must work 50% or more), including both Research Foundation and State employees. Tuition Waiver Form available online or in the Human Resources Office. Return form, with supervisory signature, to the Human Resources Office.
  • Employee pays balance of tuition/fees.
  • Tuition approved at 50%, for max of 2 courses per semester.
UUP Tuition Waiver
  • Enrollment based on space available.
  • UUP employees may enroll in one course per semester and per summer session up to 4 credit hours.
This waiver is available to UUP employees only Application available in Human Resources Office. 
  • Tuition free, up to 4 credit hours
  • Employee responsible for all other fees.
CSEA Tuition Benefit Program
  • Voucher for (1) credit bearing course up to 4 credits at the resident tuition per credit rate, not to exceed $305 per credit, or
  • Tuition for one non-credit course up to $1,220 or one Excelsior College fee up to a maximum of $1,220

All CSEA employees who are on payroll when applying for the benefit. Contact the Partnership and speak with an advisor to obtain an application form. 
  • All fees and expenses other than tuition are the employee's responsibility. 
  • Tuition costs in excess of the maximum provided are the employee's responsibility. 
M/C Tuition Reimbursement
  • Reimbursement for credit or non-credit courses up to 75% of cost. 
  • Maximum reimbursement of $1,750 per fiscal year (April 1 - March 31).
  • 6 months continuous employment prior to start of course.
  • Must be working half-time or more. 
  • Application is made directly to SUNY System Administration. 
  • Instructions available online.

Course registration fees are reimbursed up to $100 and lab fees up to $75 per course. 

NYSCOPBA/Council 82 Tuition Reimbursement
  • Available for courses taken at accredited institutions.
Full-time employees must complete 6 months of continuous service.  Application available online.  Reimbursement is 50% of covered tuition expenses up to a maximum of $600 per fiscal year. 
PS&T (PEF) Tuition Assistance
  • Eligible employees may use up to 6 PSTP Vouchers in each fiscal year. 
Employees who are eligible to earn accruals.  Benefit only applies with accredited institutions.  Employees must pay tuition expenses.
