It's on us - all of us - to prevent sexual assault and other interpersonal violence.
SUNY Cortland supports the national movement, It's On Us which challenges all of us to:
- recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
- identify situations in which sexual violence may occur.
- intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
- create an environment in which sexual violence is unacceptable and survivors are supported.
At SUNY Cortland, we expand the notion of sexual violence to include not only sexual assault, but also, intimate partner (domestic/dating) violence and stalking. The SUNY Cortland It's On Us Action Team, comprised of students, faculty and staff members, works to annually provide a variety of programs and educational initiatives throughout the year.
How can you be all in?

SUNY Cortland is committed to educating all new and current students, as well as employees, in a variety of prevention and awareness educational programs to decrease violence and maintain a culture where sexual assault and acts of violence are not tolerated. Positive bystander intervention education helps too both prevent misconduct and create a positive campus climate. It's On Us!

Prevention Education Programs
The It's On Us Action Team hosts a variety of programmatic events throughout the year. Below are some of our most popular events. For a comprehensive list of our programs, please email Itsonus@cortland.edu
Consent Cart: Approximately three times a month the Its On Us action team has used a golf cart to taxi students to class. In return students answer questions about consent and have the opportunity to win various prizes!
Welcome Week Ice Cream Social: During the first week of classes the action team hands out stickers, t-shirts, and asks students questions on consent.
Yards for Yeardley: Yards for Yeardley is an awareness and activation event supported by the national foundation, One Love. One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love. Students are encouraged to exercise or move for “love”.
