New Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Upon completion of a national search, SUNY Cortland has named Shaun Black as its next associate vice president for Information Resources. 

Shaun earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Grinnell College and holds an M.B.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Early in his career, he worked as an analyst for the National Security Division and as an IT Specialist/Webmaster for the Congressional Budget Office. He originally came to central New York to work as a senior consultant for a national IT services firm before joining the staff at Le Moyne College in 2001 as Director of Network Services.

Over his 24 years at Le Moyne, Shaun served as Director of Information Technology, Senior Director for Information Technology, and most recently as Associate Vice President of IT Services/Chief Information Officer. As CIO, he was responsible for the leadership and management of campus IT services and staff including governance, strategic planning, and budgeting. He managed numerous large-scale projects, most recently the selection and successful implementation of a 10-month, $3.5 million Workday Finance and Human Resources system. He has a record of collaboration on and supporting academic priorities including classroom design, online course development, budgeting for new academic programs and co-chairing Le Moyne’s Middle States accreditation effort. Lastly, as part of his vision, leadership, and commitment to mission, Shaun strategically and broadly integrated student workers into his division, most recently to staff a security operations center to better enhance awareness of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
