SUNY Cortland has obtained a federal grant for $247,000 to develop academic programs that will train tomorrow's community leaders and help keep young people in the state after graduation.

SUNY Cortland’s Institute for Civic Engagement (ICE) is seeking nominations from the College and the Cortland community for its fifth annual Leadership in Civic Engagement Awards.

Krista Merry, a senior speech pathology and audiology major from Homer, N.Y., has won the top honor in SUNY Cortland's annual writing contest for the second year. Merry is one of five undergraduate and three graduate students who will receive $100 in the College Writing Contest for each of their winning entries. She was recognized for her short story, "Flower of the Field," written for a Writing Fiction course taught by Mario Hernandez, lecturer of English.

Claudia Brenner, who barely lived to write the book Eight Bullets: One Woman’s Story of Surviving Anti-Gay Violence, will lecture on Monday, March 30, at SUNY Cortland.

In light of five successful Summer Teacher Institutes in Belize, SUNY Cortland is planning another program from July 3-12 that will bring teachers back to that Central American country for a unique learning experience.
