Jose Diaz-Duran

My experience in the Physics Department at SUNY Cortland has had a huge impact on my life. I learned to adapt and grow with the support from my professors and my classmates. The Physics Department at SUNY Cortland gave me a sense of community that encouraged me to keep learning. Physics has helped me immensely in my current career in application development.

My time studying in the Physics department has been a very valuable learning experience. The faculty push you to do your best and truly wish to see you succeed. In my time here, I've had the opportunity to work closely with my professors on their research and have even presented some of that work at college events like Transformations. In addition to that, I've been able to present shows at the campus planetarium and have had hands-on experience with the telescopes. I plan on continuing my studies at grad school in astronomy and I feel that my time at SUNY Cortland has prepared me for that next big step.

At SUNY Cortland, I have had the opportunity to be immersed in the science community. As president of the Physics and Engineering (PEN) Club, I have seen first-hand how the STEM community promotes the exploration and creation of science. The PEN Club, in particular we promote the pursuit of scientific knowledge and innovation through projects, collaborations with other clubs, and outreach to our Cortland community! I would not trade my experience here in the STEM community for anything, as it has helped me grow as an individual and a scientist!

Douglas Stickles

As of writing this testimonial, I am a sophomore in the SUNY Cortland Physics Department and have had an enjoyable, thought provoking, and above all else fun experience learning the fundamentals of physics and mathematics. The professors in the Physics Department are supportive and ambitious to answer any questions you have inside and outside of the class, and they thoroughly challenge your knowledge and problem solving abilities. An undergraduate education in the SUNY Cortland Physics Department allows for student development and even research which may be useful for those planning on moving forward to graduate school like me!
