SOTL Writing Accoutability Group - Fall 2026

The SOTL Writing Accountability Group is a monthly gathering for faculty engaged in — or hoping to start — scholarship related to their own teaching and learning. Rather than a one-time cohort, this is a recurring community: faculty join and continue participating across semesters, building an ongoing peer network of colleagues doing similar work.

Sessions combine community and productivity. Members connect with other faculty pursuing Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) research, brainstorm project ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and share progress on works in various stages — from early concept to submission. Each session also protects dedicated, uninterrupted time to write, grounded in the idea that regular writing time paired with group accountability makes consistent progress far more achievable than writing alone.

Professional Development Objectives

Through recurring monthly sessions, participants will:

• Connect with faculty across campus who are conducting SOTL research, building a durable community of practice around teaching-and-learning scholarship.
• Brainstorm and refine SOTL project ideas with peer input.
• Share progress regularly, creating accountability that supports sustained momentum on writing projects.
• Set concrete writing goals for each session and reflect on progress toward them.
• Protect dedicated writing time within a supportive, low-pressure structure.

Session Structure

• Group discussion (approximately 20 minutes) focused on professional, research and writing-related issues and strategies; facilitated by WAG group leaders Morgan Vickery & Katie Laux.
• Check-in and goal-setting: Members briefly share what they're working on, progress since the last session, and their writing goal for the current session.
• Structured writing time: The majority of each session is set aside for individual writing, with the group present as a source of quiet accountability.
• Wrap-up: Members close by reflecting on progress made and setting intentions for the next session.

Deliverable

There is no formal deliverable required of participants. The group's purpose is ongoing scholarly productivity and peer connection — participants determine their own writing goals and projects.

Participation Requirement

Participants are asked to commit to regular monthly attendance. Meeting times will be determined based on participant availability, as indicated in the application.
