Community of Practice: Building a Teaching Effectiveness Blueprint

This Community of Practice grew out of a Teaching Effectiveness Blueprint Working Group convened by the Center for Teaching and Learning, drawing faculty from the Faculty Development Committee and Teaching Effectiveness Committee. The working group's early conversations examined teaching effectiveness (TE) frameworks from other universities, compared how Cortland instructors already define TE in their own departments, and produced a draft set of TE considerations meant to spark broader discussion — not settle it. Importantly, this blueprint is a starting point, not a finished product, a policy, or an assessment tool: it's not tied to any evaluation procedure, and it's designed instead to build shared language for faculty development and the onboarding of new faculty and adjuncts.

The working group started small, but this Community of Practice is open to everyone who wants to help refine it. Participants meet five times across the Fall and Spring semesters and receive a stipend for their participation.
