New Student Checklist

SUNY Cortland ID#

Know your SUNY Cortland ID#, or C# (C00….) and familiarize yourself with myRedDragon

Immunization and Health History Forms

Complete your Immunization Form and Health History Form and return them to the Student Health Service Office.

July 1 or as soon as possible after that for late admissions.

Students with disabilities

If you are a student with a disability, complete the Self-ID Form and return with the required documentation to the Student Disability Service Office.

Housing

Complete your Housing Preference Form in myRedDragon or complete the New Student Off Campus Approval Form.

May 31

Orientation Registration

Register to attend an Orientation (first-year students) or Transfer Transition Seminar (transfer students) through myRedDragon.

June 3

Financial Aid

Review and accept/decline your financial aid award letter through myRedDragon. Be sure to regularly review the financial aid checklist. (Note: only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for federal financial aid.)

You will be notified by the Financial Aid Office when your award letter is ready.

Course Registration

First-year students complete your Course Preference Form and transfer students complete the Transfer Information Sheet. Return to Advisement and Transition.

June 3

AP, IB, CLEP and College Course Credits

Request your AP, IB and CLEP exam scores and college transcripts to be sent to SUNY Cortland, Admissions Office, P.O. Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045. Also bring copies to Orientation.

Transcripts

Submit your final high school transcripts to the Admissions Office, P.O. Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045. Final transcripts should clearly identify your date of graduation, if applicable.

Orientation

Attend Orientation or Transfer Transition Seminar to register for courses. (International students will receive information from the International Programs Office about your separate, mandatory Orientation program.)

Check your schedule

Email

Regularly check your Cortland email account through myRedDragon. All official communication from SUNY Cortland will be sent to this email account (ex. student bill, course schedule updates, etc.).

Beginning in June

Meal Plan

Review your meal plan options and make any changes through your myRedDragon.

August 13

Bill

Review and pay your student bill via myRedDragon.

Beginning on/about July 9; Complete by August 13

Textbooks

Order your textbooks.

 Before classes start on August 26

Roommates

Contact your future roommate(s) about what they are bringing to avoid bringing two of everything.

Emergency Contact

Add/Update your information for our campus emergency notification system through myRedDragon.

Code of Conduct

Become familiar with the Code of Student Conduct and understand your rights and responsibilities as a member of the campus community.

 Clubs

Complete the clubs and organizations survey so that you can learn about how to get involved and meet people.

 August 4

Parking Permit

Purchase a parking permit if you plan to have your car on campus.

Beginning in August; Complete by August 26

Course Schedule

Reprint your semester course schedule in case of any course changes (locations, instructors, etc.).

Before classes start on August 26

ID Card

Pick up your SUNY ID card from the ASC Office in Neubig Hall. Bring a photo ID and your SUNY Cortland ID number.
