Congratulations on joining the SUNY Cortland community! Now that you have paid your admissions deposit, complete the following steps to make your transition here as smooth as possible.

SUNY Cortland ID#

Know your SUNY Cortland ID#, or C# (C00….) and familiarize yourself with myRedDragon

Following acceptance

Immunization and Health History Forms

Complete your health forms through the Student Health Portal in myRedDragon and submit an official immunization record to Student Health Service.

July 1 or as soon as possible for late admissions

Students with disabilities

If you are a student with a disability, complete the Self-Identification Form and return with the required documentation to the Disability Resources Office.

As soon as possible


Complete your Housing Preference Form or the New Student Off Campus Approval Form in myRedDragon.

Financial Aid

Review and accept or decline your financial aid package on myRedDragon. Be sure to regularly review the financial aid checklist. (Note: only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for federal financial aid.)

You will be notified by the Financial Aid Office when your award letter is ready.

Orientation Registration

Register to attend Orientation  or Transfer Orientation and Advisement through myRedDragon.

June 1

Wilderness Adventure Program
After you have scheduled your summer Orientation program, consider joining Adirondack Trail Blazers - an outdoor activity program that provides an exciting transition to college life. Participate in this five-day wilderness experience with some of your new classmates just prior to the start of the semester. Space is limited. July 31
AP, IB, CLEP and College Course Credits Request your AP, IB and CLEP exam scores and college transcripts to be sent to SUNY Cortland, Admissions Office, P.O. Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045. Also bring copies to Orientation. As soon as possible after final grades are posted
Transcripts Submit your final high school transcripts to the Admissions Office, P.O. Box 2000, Cortland, NY 13045. Final transcripts should clearly identify your date of graduation, if applicable. As soon as possible after graduation


Attend Orientation or Transfer Orientation and Advisement to register for courses. (International students will receive information from the International Programs Office about your separate, mandatory Orientation program.)

Check your schedule

After Orientation 





Regularly check your Cortland email account through myRedDragon. All official communication from SUNY Cortland will be sent to this email account, such as your tuition bill, course schedule updates, etc.

Beginning in June


 Review and pay your student bill via myRedDragon.

Beginning on or about July 11; Complete by Aug. 14

Meal Plan

Review your meal plan options and make any changes via myRedDragon.

Contact your future roommate(s) about what they are bringing to avoid bringing two of everything.

Check out clubs and organizations so that you can learn about how to get involved and meet people.

If you are considering working during your time at SUNY Cortland, be sure to bring your official passport or Social Security card and Birth Certificate for paperwork purposes.

Complete Think About It, an interactive program that provides education about sexual assault, healthy relationships, and substance abuse prevention. You will be sent an email with a link to access the course.

Add or update your information for our campus emergency notification system on myRedDragon.

Purchase a parking permit if you will have a car on campus.

Reprint your semester course schedule in case of any changes in classroom location or instructors.

ID Card

Pick up your SUNY ID card from the ASC Office in Neubig Hall. Bring a photo ID and your SUNY Cortland ID number.
