Programs for SUNY Cortland Students

Students attending CAR


SUNY Cortland provides New York State mandated workshops for SUNY Cortland students:

          • Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting (CAR)
      • Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
      • School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAV

All teacher candidates will be required to complete the CAR/DASA/SAV workshops prior to student teaching.

Failure to attend will result in you receiving a “NC” = No Credit.
You will be required to re-register for another workshop (based on availability) at the original fee.
Any questions regarding the workshops, please email the FESP Office.

Workshop registration must occur during the regular online "pre-registration period" or during the Drop/Add period through the Registrar's Office using myRedDragon. 


The Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting (CAR) (PDF workbook) course workshops are offered 6-7 times per semester, on Saturdays and are two hours in duration.


The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) (PDF workbook) course workshops are offered 6-7 times per semester, on Saturdays and follows a hybrid format, consisting of three hours of online modules, culminating in a three-hour, virtual (face-to-face) workshop. 

DASA Training is focused on the following major content areas:

    • Understanding the intent, components, and operational definitions of the Dignity for All Students Act.
    • Developing sensitivity to the experience of specific student populations.
    • Understanding how school climate and culture have an impact on student achievement and behavior.
    • Understanding bullying, harassment, and discrimination, including indicators, early warning signs, prevention and intervention and how to interact with families of victims and aggressors.
    • Understanding diversity and multicultural environments and examining your own biases.

The School Violence Prevention and Intervention (SAV) (PDF workbook) course workshops are offered 6-7 times per semester, on Saturdays and are two hours in duration. 

Fees:

CAR: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting ($35 non-refundable fee)

DASA: Dignity for All Students Act ($100 non-refundable fee)

SAV: School Violence Prevention and Intervention ($35 non-refundable fee)
