Bonni C. Hodges, Co-Director

Bonni C HodgesDr. Bonni C. Hodges is a State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Health at the State University of New York College at Cortland. She received her PhD from the University of Maryland in health education, a M.S. in exercise science from Northeastern University, and a B.S. in physical education with a concentration in athletic training from Ithaca College. She is a former certified athletic trainer. She is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service, SUNY Chancellor’s Research and Scholarship Recognition Award, SUNY Cortland Outstanding Achievement in Research Award, and the SUNY Cortland President’s Award for Funded Research. Her current research areas focus on how best to foster and support student-athlete well-being; the role of athletic trainers in health promotion and health education with student-athletes; and social determinants of student-athlete and athletic staff health and well-being. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and workshops, has published in a variety of journals in public health education and school health, and is the primary author of Assessment and Planning in Health Programs.

Lindsey Darvin, Co-Director

Dr. Lindsey Darvin is an assistant professor of sport management with the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in sport management. Her research centers around the themes of sport industry gender equity and athlete development with a particular focus on seeking to combat the underrepresentation of women and girl players and employees across traditional sport and esport spaces. She is an active researcher, who has presented at international conferences and has published in refereed journals in the areas of management, sociology, organizational behavior, sustainability, athlete development, and communications.

Allison Braun

Allison Braun is the assistant women’s basketball coach at State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland. She graduated from McDowell High School as a soccer and basketball duo. Braun and played four years of basketball at Division I Canisius College from 2009 -13 where she was named a 2-year captain and voted by her teammates as Most Valuable Player. She graduated summa cum laude with abachelor's degree in environmental studies, incorporating minors in art history and biology. She utilized her 5th year of eligibility as a member of the varsity crew team while earning a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. Upon graduating, Braun traveled to Chuuk, Micronesia to teach and coach at the Jesuit Xavier High School. After her travels and freelance work in organizational consulting and creative directing, Braun joined the SUNY Cortland Women's Basketball staff in 2018.During the 2019-20 season she was a part of Cortland's coaching contingent that was named the SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year. She served as the interim Academic Coordinator for Athletics for the 2019-2020 school year. Braun is passionate about human development and interested in the neurolinguistics of coaching, facilitating community building and culture creation in athletics, and understanding the "flow state" in the person.

Ashley Crossway

Dr. Ashley Crossway serves as the Coordinator of Clinical Education for the SUNY Cortland Athletic Training Program.  She is a central New York native, and an alumna of the SUNY Cortland athletic training program.  She received her Doctor of Athletic Training from Indiana State University and has experience as an athletic trainer and preceptor at both the collegiate and secondary levels.  Dr. Crossway served as a founding member of the NATA LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and currently serves as its District 2 representative. She has completed research and presentations on numerous topics that include establishing and promoting inclusive environments in the healthcare community.  In 2018 Dr. Crossway was recognized for her efforts in diversity and inclusiveness with the Indiana State University Award for Inclusive Excellence.  She has had several publications in the Journal of Athletic Training, International Journal of Exercise, NATA News, has presented at NYSATA, PATS, EATA’s, and the NATA Convention.

Alyson Dearie

Dr. Alyson Dearie is an assistant professor in the Kinesiology Department and serves as the program director of athletic training at SUNY Cortland.   Dr. Dearie received her Doctorate of Education in Educational Theory and Practice in 2018 from Binghamton University.  She has been an educator and athletic trainer at SUNY Cortland since 1994.  In 2018, Dr. Dearie was awarded the John L. Sciera Service Award for her outstanding contributions to athletic training at SUNY Cortland. Dr. Dearie’s research interests include behavioral health in education/clinical practice, program management, and curriculum.  Her research focuses on behavioral health including mental health concerns and a holistic approach to the overall health and well-being of the body, mind, and spirit.  

Erin Morris

Dr. Erin Morris is an assistant professor of sport management with the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland. She received her PhD in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Morris’ research focuses on women and girls’ participation in sport and sport administration. She is particularly interested in non-traditional sports such as women’s ice hockey, rugby, and roller derby.
