Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)

Below, reports are listed in sections by report type, with multiple years in each section. A brief description of the report is also provided.

IPEDS is the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, a system of interconnected reports collected annually by the U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires institutions that participate in federal student aid programs report data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. For more information about IPEDS, please visit their website. NCES also uses IPEDS data to produce our SUNY Cortland Profile, at their College Navigator page, and the College Scorecard.

Files on this page are accessible to individuals with a valid SUNY Cortland login and password.

Below is a list of IPEDS reports for the corresponding academic year.

Institutional Characteristics

This reports collects basic information about the institution's mission, student services, and student charges. Much of this data appears on the College Navigator.

Fall Enrollment

This report gathers student enrollment information by level of student, enrollment status, gender and race/ethnicity. First-time student retention rates and the student-to-faculty ratio are also gathered. Every other year data on residence of first-time undergraduates is required and in opposite years, enrollment by student age is required to be reported.

12-Month Enrollment

This report gathers unduplicated student enrollment counts and instructional activity data for an entire 12-month period. Using the instructional activity data reported, a full-time equivalent (FTE) student enrollment at the undergraduate and graduate level is estimated.

Admissions

This report gathers basic information about the undergraduate selection process for first-time, degree/certificate-seeking students. This includes information about admissions considerations, admissions yields, and SAT and ACT test scores (if required for admission). It covers the most recent Fall period and is only applicable to first-time entering students.

Completions

This report gathers the number of degrees and certificates awarded by field of study, level of award, race/ethnicity, and gender. The reporting period is the 12-month time period beginning July 1 of the previous calendar year and ending June 30 of the current calendar year.

Graduation Rates

This report gathers data on the completion status of first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduate students entering the institution in the fall term of the academic year six years ago. This corresponds to tracking their completion status at 150% of the normal time to complete all requirements of their program of study.

Graduation Rates 200

This report gathers more information about completion status, tracking the cohort of students that could have completed all requirements of their program of study within 200% of normal time (eight years).

Outcome Measures

This report, first gathered in the 2015-16 reporting year, gathers data on undergraduates related to award and enrollment, split in a variety of ways. Four cohorts from the same time period are differentiated by entry status (first-time vs. non-first time) and time status (full-time vs. part-time), three status points (four-years, six-years, and eight-years after entry). Beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, groups were further split between Pell Grant recipients and Non-Pell Grant recipients.

Student Financial Aid

This report collects information about financial aid provided to undergraduate students, as well as military/veteran educational benefits. It is also the primary source of data for the Net Price Calculator.

Finance

This report collects basic financial information associated with the General Purpose Financial Statements of the institution.

Human Resources

This report collects information about the staff of the institution.

Data Feedback Reports

This report graphically summarizes selected institutional data and compares the data with peer institutions.
