Peer Advising Initiative
The Peer Advising Initiative is designed to give psychology students accessible and student-centered support alongside their formal academic advising. Peer advisors can help students navigate common questions about the major, course planning and registration, degree requirements, campus resources, and opportunities within the department. They can also share practical knowledge from their own experiences—such as how to prepare for registration, choose electives, find research or other involvement opportunities, and help connect with the faculty advisor or the department chair if needed.
By creating opportunities to connect with other students, ask informal questions, and learn more about the program and department, the Peer Advising Initiative aims to help students feel part of a community rather than simply enrolled in a major. Our peer advising supports both navigating academic life and building connection, engagement, and belonging.
How a Peer Advisor might be able to help you:
Would you like help preparing for registration?
Not sure how to read your Degree Works or understand what requirements you still need?
Trying to build a schedule that actually works?
Wondering which courses or electives might be a good fit?
Interested in research, internships, or other opportunities in Psychology?
Or would you simply like to talk with an upper-level Psychology student about their experiences and get some student-to-student advice?
Come to Peer Advising Office Hours! No appointment is necessary. Our peer advisors are available during the following times to answer questions, help you navigate the program, or simply talk through your options.
