Adolescence Education - Mathematics

In 2003, the SUNY Cortland Teacher Education Council established a portfolio requirement for students in all teacher education programs. The purpose is twofold: it serves as one method of assessing the quality of our teacher education programs, and provides students with a record of achievements that can be shared with potential employers.

Minimum requirements approved in 2003 include the following:

    • Essay on dispositions from the Teacher Education program application.
    • Sample journal entry or written assignment from the 100 hours of fieldwork.
    • Artifacts which demonstrate planning for instruction. These could include completed assignments from methods courses or actual lesson and unit plans from the student teaching experiences.
    • Evidence of technology use in planning and instruction. Students in Adolescence Education - Mathematics must include the following items:
        • A lesson plan that integrates the use of technology.

        • A classroom presentation developed using appropriate presentation software.

      • Two graded assignments completed in content courses that required the use of technology. The assignments must come from different courses.
    • Statement of teaching philosophy completed at the end of the program.
  • A current resume.

The department uses an online portfolio system called TaskStream. All AEM majors are required to upload their work to this site. Students should contact their advisor or the undergraduate coordinator for information about TaskStream.

Student responsibilities

  • Complete all required items and maintain the portfolio in electronic format (TaskStream).
  • Provide appropriate documentation to the program advisor as each item is completed.

Instructor responsibilities

  • Inform students of course assignments that would be appropriate for inclusion in a portfolio.
  • Grade uploaded assignments on TaskStream.

Advisor responsibilities

  • Remind advisees in the AEM program of the portfolio requirement.
  • Update advisee's TaskStream account once all requirements are met.
