Remote Advising Resources for Students

Advisement and Registration

Contact your academic advisor! Your advisor wants to hear from you and know how you are doing. If you haven’t heard from them yet, reach out to see how they will be conducting advising meetings this semester. If given the option, let them know how you would like to meet (video chat, phone, etc.) Reaching out to and talking with your advisor is important in accessing an important campus resource and getting your questions answered. You will need to meet with your academic advisor prior to registering for the upcoming semester.

 Engaging with your advisor remotely

  • Look for an email or notification from your academic advisor about setting up an advising appointment. This might be in Teams, on WebEx, over the phone, or some other electronic form of communication. Some advisors may also have some options for an in person meeting.
  • Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor either via Starfish or their preferred method. If your advisor is scheduling appointments via Starfish, review this resource to make an appointment.
  • Make sure YOUR cell phone number is up-to-date in your Starfish profile or provide the correct number to reach you if you will be having a phone meeting.
  • Review your Degree Audit.
  • View the course schedule and identify potential courses.
  • Develop a list of questions or concerns you would like to discuss with your academic advisor.
  • Make sure to discuss how things are going this semester. How have you adjusted to online learning? Are you able to access the resources you need to be successful?
  • Use Schedule Builder to create your ideal schedule. Add courses, generate schedules, compare various schedules and identify a few that you like best.
  • Once you have the schedule you would like to register for, send it to your shopping cart.
  • At your designated time, hit the register button.
  • Learn more about how to register.
