Commencement

2017 Commencement Ceremonies

Commencement will be held in four separate, indoor ceremonies, including a Friday evening graduate event. 

The schedule is as follows:

  • Graduate: Friday, May 12, at 7 p.m.
  • Undergraduate 1: Saturday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m.
  • Undergraduate 2: Saturday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m.
  • Undergraduate 3: Saturday, May 13, at 7 p.m.

All Commencement ceremonies will be held in the Bessie L. Park Class of 1901 Physical Education and Recreation Center Alumni Arena.

Students will select their Commencement ceremony online on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 6 a.m. on March 21, 2017.

Due to room capacity and fire code regulations, each student will receive four guest tickets. If students wish to bring additional guests they may utilize our overflow spaces. No tickets are needed for guests utilizing the overflow spaces.

Undergraduate Degree Application

To graduate, you must apply for your degree regardless of participation in the Commencement ceremony. Degree application is accomplished through myRedDragon. You may apply for your degree now through March 1.

Once at myRedDragon, do the following:

  1. Enter your ID and password
  2. Select "Student" tab and go to the "Registrar" column
  3. Select "Degree Conferral and Commencement"
  4. Select "Apply for Degree Conferral." You must apply by March 1 to ensure that your name will appear in the printed program.
  5. At prompt for Commencement participation, indicate whether you plan to attend a Commencement ceremony.

Ceremony Selection

To select your Commencement ceremony, complete the following steps beginning at 6 a.m. on March 21, 2017:

  1. Log into myRedDragon
  2. Select the "Student" tab at the top
  3. Under the Commencement 2017 channel, select Commencement Tickets (first option)
  4. Select your ceremony (first-come, first-served basis)

Diploma Cover Purchase

To participate in Commencement, you must purchase a diploma cover through the online ticketing process before you are able to select your tickets. The cost is $11.50. Please have a credit card ready. The diploma cover is linked to your Student Line-Up Ticket, which you MUST bring with you the day of Commencement. The diploma cover will be handed to you as you walk across the stage. It has no official resale value.

Ceremony Selection

Graduate Students are able to select their ceremony online beginning at 8 a.m. on March 22, 2017.

To select the Graduate Commencement ceremony, complete the following steps:

  1. Log into myRedDragon
  2. Select the Student Tab at the top
  3. Under the Commencement 2017 Channel, select Commencement Tickets (first option)
  4. Select your ceremony (there is only one ceremony for graduate students)

Please note: Guest tickets are not required for admission into the Graduate Commencement ceremony. You will only need to bring your Student Line-Up Ticket with you. 

Safety Inspections

SUNY Cortland cares about the safety of its new graduates and their families. As a precaution, backpacks and other items may be inspected before visitors enter the Alumni Arena for Commencement ceremonies. The College appreciates your cooperation in making this a safe and memorable event.
