Student Life Center

In order to better fulfill our mission and to significantly improve the quality of life for all students, we will begin construction of a new $51.2 million Student Life Center at SUNY Cortland in the near future, with the target opening date of spring, 2013. This facility will have a vast array of physical recreation components, as well as a variety of social spaces.

Some of the components may include:

  • Climbing Wall
  • Combative room
  • Large lounge area with big-screen TVs and table games
  • Four racquetball/squash courts
  • Recreational swimming pool
  • Group exercise studio
  • Outdoor pursuits center
  • Large conference room
  • Four multi-purpose courts
  • One MAC court
  • Suspended jogging track
  • Large comprehensive fitness facility
  • Large food court
  • Locker rooms
  • Game room w/ billiards, table tennis, batting cage
  • Large classroom

This new Student Life Center will be operated on an "Open Recreation" concept, which means that it will always be available for our students' recreational use, from 6 a.m. until midnight the week, and until 2 a.m. on weekends. By providing high-quality, consistent recreational services and a place for students to "hang out" and socialize, the SLC will be an excellent alternative to the downtown scene. It will also be invaluable in recruiting new students, and will enhance the quality of life more than anything else we could possibly do. We are very excited to begin the planning process for this wonderful addition to our SUNY Cortland campus! Please call Julian Wright, Director of Recreational Sports (607) 753-5585, with any questions or concerns about the new Student Life Center.
