Student Life Center

In order to better fulfill our mission and to significantly improve the quality of life for all students, we are nearing completion of a new $51.2 million Student Life Center at SUNY Cortland, with the target opening date of January, 2015. This facility will have a vast array of physical recreation components, as well as a variety of social spaces.

The major components of the new Student Life Center include:

  • Three-court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and badminton
  • One MAC court for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and floor hockey
  • Suspended jogging track (1/5 mile)
  • Large comprehensive fitness facility with separate cardio and circuit/free weight areas
  • Large food service
  • Locker rooms
  • Large game room
  • Large meeting room/classroom
  • Mind/body room
  • Recreational Sports administrative offices
  • Athletic Training room
  • Massage room
  • Fitness testing room
  • Bouldering wall
  • Climbing wall
  • Combatives room
  • Various casual spaces for socialization
  • Recreational swimming pool with 6 lanes, recreational area, resistance walk, and hot tub
  • Group exercise room
  • Outdoor pursuits center with trip planning area and outdoor equipment rental
  • Golf simulator stations
  • Spinning room
  • Equipment checkout service

This new Student Life Center will be operated on an "Open Recreation" concept, which means that it will always be available for our students' recreational use, from 6 a.m. until midnight weekdays, and until 2 a.m. on weekends. By providing high-quality, consistent recreational services and a place for students to "hang out" and socialize, the SLC will be an excellent alternative to the downtown scene. It will also be invaluable in recruiting new students, and will enhance the quality of student life more than anything else we could possibly do. We are very excited to be nearing the completion of this wonderful addition to our SUNY Cortland campus!
