Dr. Bonni C. Hodges, Executive Director

Bonni C HodgesDr. Bonni C. Hodges is a State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Service Professor and Professor of Health at the State University of New York College at Cortland. She received her PhD from the University of Maryland in health education, a M.S. in exercise science from Northeastern University, and a B.S. in physical education with a concentration in athletic training from Ithaca College. She is a former certified athletic trainer. She is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service, SUNY Chancellor’s Research and Scholarship Recognition Award, SUNY Cortland Outstanding Achievement in Research Award, and the SUNY Cortland President’s Award for Funded Research. Her current research areas focus on how best to foster and support student-athlete well-being; the role of athletic trainers in health promotion and health education with student-athletes; and social determinants of student-athlete and athletic staff health and well-being. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and workshops, has published in a variety of journals in public health education and school health, and is the primary author of Assessment and Planning in Health Programs.

Dr. Ashley Crossway

Ashley CrosswayDr. Ashley Crossway serves as the Coordinator of Clinical Education for the SUNY Cortland Athletic Training Program.  She is a central New York native, and an alumna of the SUNY Cortland athletic training program.  She received her Doctor of Athletic Training from Indiana State University and has experience as an athletic trainer and preceptor at both the collegiate and secondary levels.  Dr. Crossway served as a founding member of the NATA LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee and currently serves as its District 2 representative. She has completed research and presentations on numerous topics that include establishing and promoting inclusive environments in the healthcare community.  In 2018 Dr. Crossway was recognized for her efforts in diversity and inclusiveness with the Indiana State University Award for Inclusive Excellence.  She has had several publications in the Journal of Athletic Training, International Journal of Exercise, NATA News, has presented at NYSATA, PATS, EATA’s, and the NATA Convention.

Dr. Alyson Dearie

A DearieDr. Alyson Dearie is an associate professor in the Kinesiology department and teaches in the graduate athletic training program at SUNY Cortland. She received her EdD from Binghamton University in Educational Theory and Practice, an MS in Health Sciences from James Madison University, and a BS in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from East Stroudsburg University. Dr. Dearie’s research interest includes curriculum, mental health, and well-being of athletes and athletic training students. In 2018, Dr. Dearie was recognized for her contributions to the athletic training program at SUNY Cortland and was awarded the John L. Sciera Service Award.

Dr. AJ Fallon-Korb

Dr. AJ Fallon-Korb is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at SUNY Cortland. They hold an Ed.D. in Sport and Performance Psychology with a concentration in Positive Leadership Administration from the University of Western States. Dr. Fallon-Korb also earned an M.S.W. from Boston University with a focus on clinical social work, an M.Ed. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. in Psychology from Carleton College. Their research centers on the concept of belonging in sport, particularly how the sense of belonging among athletes and coaches impacts well-being and performance. They are particularly interested in intentionally developing sport cultures that foster and enhance a sense of belonging. As former NCAA Division III college basketball coach and athlete, Dr. Fallon-Korb is a four-time MIAC champion and made three NCAA tournament appearances during their career. 

Dr. Erin Morris 

E. Morris.jpgDr. Erin Morris is an Associate Professor in the Sport Management Department at the State University of New York at Cortland. She received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Recreation, Sport and Tourism, a M.S. in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from Clemson University, and a B.A. in Sociology with a Minor in Sports Studies from Whitman College. Dr. Morris’ main area of research focuses on women and girls’ participation in sport and recreation and sport management pedagogy. She is particularly interested in participation in non-traditional sports such as women’s ice hockey, rugby, and roller derby. She is published in the Sport Management Education Journal, the Sociology of Sport Journal, and the Recreational Sports Journal among others. Additionally, Dr. Morris serves as the Co-Chair of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Committee at Cortland. In this role, she has helped implement multiple initiatives to make Cortland’s campus more welcoming to LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Tracy A. Trachsler

Tracy A. TrachslerDr. Tracy A. Trachsler is an associate professor of Sport Management and the Graduate Program Coordinator of Sport Management at the State University of New York College at Cortland. She received her PhD from Springfield College in Physical Education - Teaching and Administration, a M.S. in Physical Education - Athletic Administration from Springfield College, and a B.S. with a double major in Spanish and Spanish Education from the University of Scranton. She is a former NCAA Division III assistant athletic director and SWA and a former Division III softball pitching coach. Her current research interests focus on issues that affect the intercollegiate athletic space and sport management pedagogy. She has published in the Sport Management Education Journal, Sport Social Work Journal, Journal of Amateur Sport, Journal of Contemporary Athletics, among others.
