Study Buddy contest combines pets and prizes

04/24/2020

One of the few perks of students finishing the semester at home is being able to spend more time with their pets. And now those canine cuddles and feline friendships could put them in the running for prizes that include five $100 gift cards and lots of Cortland apparel and gear.

SUNY Cortland’s Study Buddy contest asks students to share a selfie of themselves with their favorite fuzzy study buddy that shows their Red Dragon pride! Maybe it’s that kitten that keeps bouncing on the keyboard when they’re trying to work. Or that mixed-breed beagle that howls every time they start a Zoom meeting. Perhaps it’s their beta fish, staring at them from his softball-sized bowl with a look that says “You think you’re isolated?!”

If students don’t have a pet, they can still compete. They just need to get creative. They can snap a photo with a favorite stuffed animal, plant or action figure. Or with a laptop or notebook that shows them video chatting with a special friend. Imagination is encouraged!

The Red Dragon pride part of the contest means students in the photos should wear red, don Cortland clothes, display Cortland mugs, pennants, publications or anything else they can think of.

To enter the contest, students simply fill out a simple online form and upload their images by May 1.

Prizes include five $100 ASC gift cards, T-shirts, stuffed Blazes and other goodies. They will be awarded at random because all of our students – and all of their furry, feathered or scaly friends - are all winners.
