Show your pride this Cortaca Jug weekend

11/10/2021

Dear students,

As you know, this Saturday is the Cortaca Jug football game against Ithaca College here on campus at noon at the Stadium Complex.

It is one of our great SUNY Cortland traditions and a rarity in Division III sports. We are fortunate to be a university that enjoys a rivalry game like this that energizes our students and our alumni.

I do hope that you get the opportunity to watch the game, have fun and celebrate with your friends and classmates.

Cortaca Jug weekend, for many students, extends into your activities on Friday and Saturday night. I ask that you be safe, be smart and be respectful. We should do this for each other, the guests on our campus for this game as well as our neighbors in the Cortland community.

In 2019, I was so proud that our team, our students and our alumni were part of setting the Division III record for attendance when the game was played at MetLife Stadium. What makes Cortaca so special is the vast number of people across the country who are paying attention. I ask our students to be responsible and set good examples this weekend.

Other events of note:

  • Student Activities Board hosts “Jerseys & Wings” tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in Corey Union Function Room.
  • Student Government Association’s Cortaca hat giveaway on Friday runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Corey Union lobby.
  • A Cortaca parade will go from Corey Union to the Stadium Complex starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
  • You can play games and decorate “Corta-Cupcakes” in Corey Union Function Room from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The Performing Arts Department presents a musical, “Big Fish,” Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Dowd Fine Arts Center Theatre. Tickets are available online.

Have a great Cortaca weekend and please be safe.

All the best – and beat Ithaca!
