Leadership Expert Ken Blanchard to Speak at SUNY Cortland

09/05/2017

Ken Blanchard, a bestselling management author and one of the most influential management experts in the world, will discuss his leadership philosophy in a public lecture at SUNY Cortland on Monday, Sept. 11.

Blanchard, co-author of the iconic bestseller The One Minute Manager and co-founder of a global training and consulting firm, will speak at 12:40 p.m. in the Ruth E. Dowd Fine Arts Center Theatre. His free lecture, “Leading is Serving,” is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.

“We are incredibly fortunate to host Dr. Blanchard, a living legend in the field of leadership and management,” said SUNY Cortland President Erik J. Bitterbaum. “His presentation is a natural fit for our growing business economics program, which in recent years has become one of our largest majors. But it is useful for any student who aspires to a leadership role, whether in education, science, communications, athletics or any other area.”

Blanchard is internationally respected for his lifetime of groundbreaking research and thought leadership that has influenced the day-to-day management and leadership of people and companies throughout the world.

He has authored more than 60 books whose combined sales total more than 21 million copies. Blanchard’s works have been translated into 42 languages and in 2005 he was inducted into Amazon’s Hall of Fame as one of the top 25 bestselling authors of all time.

In 1979, he co-founded The Ken Blanchard Companies with his wife, Margie, and continues to oversee the multi-faceted, international management training firm with the title of spiritual officer. The company, based in San Diego, now has offices scattered across the globe, from South Africa to Serbia and from Brazil to Bulgaria.

Blanchard was educated in the region, receiving his bachelor’s degree and his Ph.D. from Cornell University, and his master’s degree from Colgate University. In addition to being a renowned speaker, author and consultant, Blanchard is a trustee emeritus of Cornell’s board of trustees. He also teaches students in the Master of Science in Executive Leadership Program at the University of San Diego.
