Room Selection Process - SUNY Cortland

Room Selection Process

West Campus Apartments Guarantee

Are you already planning where you want to live next year? You can choose West Campus Apartments and sign up this semester!

What is the West Campus Apartments Guarantee?

We offer an early room selection process during the fall semester. You'll have an opportunity to choose a room at WCA and not have to choose a room in the spring. One major benefit to signing up now is that you will pay this year's room rate next year. If our room rates increase, yours won't as long as you remain at WCA!

How do I sign up?

Current WCA residents: do you want to choose to live in the same room next year?

  • Complete the WCA Guarantee- Same Room form beginning on Oct. 3. Complete by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 9; you will automatically be added to a selection process to choose your current room. Some restrictions do apply, however.

All other SUNY Cortland students or current WCA residents wishing to move to another WCA location:

  • Complete the WCA Guarantee form available Oct. 11 - Nov. 20; you will automatically be added to a selection process to choose from available rooms at WCA.

Fill Out Your RSP Form (view screenshots)

  1. Select Forms.
  2. Choose "WCA Guarantee- Same Room" or "WCA Guarantee"
  3. Read and sign the Room and Board License.
  4. Complete page one: roommate matching questionnaire and housing questions; once done, click Continue.
  5. Review the confirmation page.

Is there a deposit?

Yes, but you don't have to pay until the spring semester. Deposits will be due no later than 4 p.m. on May 1.

Can I sign up at WCA during the Room Selection Process (RSP) in the spring?

Spaces are typically limited at WCA during RSP. If you know you want to live at WCA next year, sign up this semester. Last year, most who wanted to live at WCA and waited until RSP were not able to choose a room there.

Can I change my room if I decide I don't want to live at WCA?

Yes, during RSP in the spring. If you switch to a room that is not at WCA, you will lose the guarantee on the lower room rate.

Doesn't it cost more money to live there?

No. Not only is the room rate $40 cheaper than a standard double and $665 cheaper than a designed single, you are not required to have a meal plan. Living at WCA can save you over $2,000 on your SUNY Cortland bill.

I need to be able to stay during breaks. Can I stay in my apartment?

Yes. WCA is open for the entire academic year. As long as you are returning in the spring semester, you can stay at WCA even during the winter break! This is a great option for student teachers or those with jobs in the area.

I don't want a roommate.

WCA only has single rooms available. You will share an apartment with three others, but have your bedroom all to yourself. And it's cheaper than a single in a residence hall!

If my apartment-mates make other plans, do I have to leave or find new roommates?

No! In the event that your friends decide to move somewhere else, we will not make you move out or require you to find new roommates. Once you have chosen your room it is yours for the following academic year- as long as you pay your deposit.

What are the restrictions on being able to choose my current room?

If you currently live in an apartment with an RA or one of the following buildings, you will have to choose another room at WCA during the second portion of the Guarantee. Restrictions include:

  • Building 3 (new freshmen)
  • Building 1 and 15 (new transfers)
  • Building 11 (21+ for new transfers)

Apartments with RAs:

  • WC03, apartment 12
  • WC04, apartment 16
  • WC07, apartment 26
  • WC10, apartment 39
  • WC12, apartment 46
  • WC14, apartment 56

Who Has to Live On Campus?

  • All new and current first year students.
    • Four semester (two year) housing requirement
    • All new transfer students with freshman credits

If you do not require on-campus housing next year for any reason (met requirement, withdrawing, transferring, internship, student teaching, etc.) complete the Release from Housing form for Fall 2017 available in the spring semester. Follow the same steps as the Fill Out Your RSP Form section.
