Sustainability at SUNY Cortland

Red Dragons Green Campus

We’ve taken the carbon challenge, formulated our Carbon Action Plan, gathered local/global resources and started programs such as community bikes, carpooling, and recycling efforts. We have demonstrated our commitment to sustainability with our LEED construction building designs, our electric vehicles, and our sustainable partnerships as well as naturalization efforts like our "No Mow" Zone, and outdoor programs at the Outdoor Education Center at Raquette Lake.

100 Percent Renewable Electrical Energy Used on Campus

SUNY Cortland is the first institution in the 64-campus SUNY system to operate all of its facilities using 100 percent renewable electrical energy.

Commitment to Reducing Energy Use

As a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, SUNY Cortland is committed to reducing energy use.

The Green Rep Program is designed to promote sustainability education and environmental awareness in the residence halls on the SUNY Cortland campus. A team of 16 individuals are hired as "Green Reps" each semester to educate the campus in all facets of sustainability.
