The following courses are authorized by the New York State Education Department to partially meet requirements for coaching certification. Additional requirements for certification may be found at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/pe/toolkitdocs/coachingguidelines_07_09.pdf. The courses are competency-based and must be taken one at a time.
Course One: The Philosophy, Principles and Organization of Athletics in Education
Course Two: Health Sciences Applied to Coaching
Course Three: Theory and Techniques of Coaching
- Course Three is specific to one sport and must be taken throughout sport season.
- If student coaches numerous sports, student must repeat the course for each sport for which certification is sought.
- Course Three is partially based on application of materials developed in Courses One and Two. Student, who has not taken Course One and Course Two through SUNY Cortland, must complete extended assignments to fulfill requirements in Course Three. Contact J. Courses are available only through eLearning—no e-mail. eLearning classrooms open at noon on the first day of course period. Upon satisfactory completion of a course, students will receive a Course Completion Certificate.

Registration and Payment
Course One and Course Two students may register through the first 30 calendar days of the course period. Course Three students must register by first day of course period.
Student must complete registration form, including student’s signature giving permission to release information to area BOCES and New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

The fee for each course is $185 payable by personal check or purchase order, payable to Center for Educational Exchange.

Withdrawl/Refund Policy
Student must request a withdrawal in writing no later than ten business days after registering to receive a refund. (If student registered before course period began, request must be made during first ten business days of course period.)
Student must complete all course requirements by the end of the course period. Failure to complete a course by the end of course period will require reenrolling, repaying, and retaking the course in order to receive a Course Completion Certificate.
