Position

Shane's Inspiration Graduate Assistantship in the Sensory Integration Motor Sensory/Multiple Sensory Environments (SIMS/MSE) Lab

Qualifications

  • Required 
    • Acceptance into SUNY Cortland graduate program in:  Physical Education, Health, Communication Disorders, Early Childhood or related field 
    • Maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout your Graduate Program
    • Demonstrate Professional Dispositions as outlined by the Physical Education Department
  • Desired  
    • Interest in working with children with Autism and Sensory Processing Disorders 
    • Interest in academic scholarship in adapted physical education and physical activity
    • Advanced computer/web/social media skills   

Relation to Educational Program

Students who receive the Shane's Inspiration Assistantship will benefit through experiences working with children with disabilities including those who have sensory processing disorders as well as exposure to literature and trainings to support these children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment 20 hours week
  • Assist Director with lab scheduling, class visits, and parent/child visits
  • Maintain lab space, equipment, and develop an electronic inventory.
  • Develop individual assessment folders for children under the direction and supervision of the Director.
  • Conduct daily sessions during regularly scheduled SIMs Lab hours
  • Supervise field experience hours (e.g. PED 356/447) within the PE department
  • Update, maintain, and share communication content for the SIMs lab
  • Complete and maintain trainings including but not limited to: Harkla Webinars & CITI Training
  • Participate in various scholarly activities including research, professional development, and conferences

Salary/Stipend  

$4200 per semester 

Commitment 20 hours week 

Tuition Support

6 credit hour tuition waiver
