May assist with research tasks and/or coursework in all department classes for individual faculty members as required. Responsibilities
The GA positions are critical for operations in The Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing Disorders. A large part of their responsibilities is related to operations in the clinic reception area that occur prior to the arrival of our Office Assistant 1 (OA1). Our OA1 is scheduled to work 12-5PM M-R. The clinic hours are 8A-5P M-R. The GAs are responsible for greeting patients/clients between the hours of 8A and 12P, which is a total of 20 hours per week, divided between the 2 GAs. When patients/clients are not scheduled in a timeslot, the GAs are required to work with the Graduate Coordinator, the faculty and OA1 with extra duties. Such duties include weekly scheduled tasks/organization in the clinic and clinic storage areas, client file handling (when other grad students wish to check a file out for review in our secure clinic area), signing out of high-value materials for clinic sessions (iPads, digital recorders, other materials). These tasks require a physical presence.
When not scheduled in the clinic reception office, the GAs work with the faculty to:
- Assist with office work in the department office.
- Assist with student and faculty research.
- Supervise and assist undergraduate students with classroom and clinic work as requested by faculty.
- Other duties as assigned by department chair and/or department secretary.
