Qualifications
- Required
- Acceptance into any SUNY Cortland graduate program
- Ability to work nights and weekends, including breaks and holidays as needed
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, administrators, outside groups, and any other users/visitors to the facility.
- Enthusiasm with a desire to work hard
- Desired
- Experience or education in Facility Management, Sport Management, and/or similar fields
- Supervisory experience
- Will be trained in proper use of all necessary equipment, but prior experience and familiarity with ice resurfacing and maintenance preferred
- Previous experience with facility scheduling and staffing events
- Demonstrate orientation toward quality customer service and teamwork
- CPR/First Aid Certification
Relation to Educational Program
This graduate assistantship will provide direct translation of skills from the classroom to the workplace. Those looking to eventually grow in a managerial role will have the opportunity to be in the role from time to time. On the flip side, it will give good experiences that can relate to some of the work being presented in the classroom.
Responsibilities
- Assist Alumni Arena Manager with all daily operations of the facility and events, including but not limited to:
- Supervising Alumni Arena Staff and programs/events on nights and weekends
- Covering events club and varsity ice hockey games, campus events at the arena, and external groups as needed
- Hire, train, schedule, discipline, and evaluate student staff
- Operate ice re-surfacer and operate machine edger for proper ice maintenance
- Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly equipment checks and basic maintenance on the ice re-surfacer, machine edger, skate sharpener, facility, etc.
- Conduct routine walk-throughs of the arena to identify any issues and ensure safety for all staff and users of the space
- Work with Arena Manager to clean out and organize storage areas
- Assist with scheduling of the facility for classes, athletic practices and games, club sports, intramurals, outside groups and any other special events
- Sharpen skates and repair equipment as needed
- Assist Arena Manager in updating, implementing, and creating any new (if necessary) policies and procedures
- Working collaboratively with other groups on campus to schedule and run events at Alumni Arena
- Physical Labor is required
- Assist with all other duties as assigned by Alumni Arena Manager
Salary/Stipend
$8050 per year ($4025 per semester)
Tuition Support
Six credits of graduate tuition support per semester.
