Family Weekend 2015: October 2 - 4

You're invited to join us for SUNY Cortland's annual Family Weekend, Oct. 2 - 4, 2015. We hope you can spend time with your Cortland student and attend events and activities designed for your entire family to enjoy. 

Friday, Oct. 2

8:30 a.m.   College Bookstore opens. Neubig Hall.
Get Cortland apparel, school supplies and more. Bookstore closes at 6 p.m.
3-8 p.m.     Check-In, Corey Union Lobby.
Welcome!  Check-in and pick up your Family Weekend packet containing your reserved tickets and updated schedules.  
3 p.m.        Women's Soccer vs. SUNY Plattsburgh, Soccer Grass Field.
4 p.m.        Field Hockey vs. SUNY Morrisville, Stadium Complex White Field.
7:30 p.m.   Musical Theatre Revue, Dowd Fine Arts Center.  Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

The Musical Theater Department presents a special Family Weekend performance, a musical revue, featuring senior musical theater majors.

Saturday, Oct. 3

9-11 a.m.        Check-in, Corey Union Lobby.
9 a.m.-5 p.m   Great Cortland Pumpkinfest, Courthouse Park, Cortland.

First held in 1996, Cortland's Pumpkinfest is truly a community effort with volunteers from numerous organizations. Enjoy arts and craft exhibitors, food, entertainment, children's games and more.  Bus transportation provided every hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from the Neubig bus stop.
9:30 a.m.        Classes Without Quizzes: "Food Fight:  When Genetic Engineering Makes Sense". Corey Union Fireplace Lounge.
Dr. Steven Broyles, professor and chair of SUNY Cortland's Biological Sciences Department, will examine the scientific evidence regarding the safety of genetically modified foods. 
10 a.m.           College Bookstore opens.  Neubig Hall.
Get Cortland apparel, school supplies and more.  Bookstore closes at 5:30 p.m.
10:30 a.m.      Coffee & Conversation, Corey Union Exhibition Lounge.
Start your day with coffee or tea and an opportunity to mix and mingle with some of our staff and other parents prior to the President's Brunch.  
11:30 a.m.      President's Brunch, Corey Union Function Room.
Join us for brunch, a popular tradition with families and students with remarks by College President Erik J. Bitterbaum and Student Government President Patrick Viscome as well as performances by student groups. General Admission (adults, SUNY Cortland Students, children six and up) - $15; Children (five and under) - $5. President's Brunch Menu.  *This event is sold out*
1 p.m.              Men's Football vs. Hartwick College, Stadium Complex Main Field.
2:30-5 p.m.     Apple Picking at Beak and Skiff Apple Orchard, Lafayette, NY.
Bus departs from Corey Union; limited bus seating available.  *This event is sold out*.  Families are welcome to follow the bus in their own vehicles.   
3:30-6 p.m. Classes without Quizzes:  Planetarium, Bowers Hall. Shows every 30 minutes - ticket required.  *This event is sold out*
7:30 p.m.        CALS presents: Divas Through the Decades, Corey Union Function Room.
A musical tribute to some of the most influential female vocalists in American pop music, Divas Through the Decades perform songs from the 1940’s through today’s current hits! The show features music by various divas including Tina Turner, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Shania Twain, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and many more!  A dessert buffet will be featured during the performance.  Adults, SUNY Cortland Faculty/Staff - $10; SUNY Cortland students, other college/school students and children free. 
9 p.m.            Family Ice Skating, Park Center Alumni Ice Arena.
Admission - $3 per person (includes skate rental).

Sunday, Oct. 4

9 a.m.           College Bookstore opens. Neubig Hall.
Get Cortland apparel, school supplies and more.  Bookstore closes at 3 p.m.
11 a.m.         8th Annual Cortland Apple 5K, Pavilion behind Park Center.
Stay active in this 3.1 mile campus fun run sponsored by the SUNY Cortland Recreational Sports Department.
12-5 p.m.     Great Cortland Pumpkinfest, Courthouse Park, Cortland.

The Family Weekend registration is closed.  Families are more than welcome to visit for the weekend and purchase tickets to any events and activities they wish to attend at the door to the event.  Thank you.
